Hi again. I stand corrected then. I have obviously been fed some bad information. This is, however, still beyond belief to me how this kind of stuff can be going on in the world today. I mean, the law of moses calls for stoning people for some pretty minor infractions also, but I can't remember the last time I heard of a bunch of hasidic jews stoning anyone. They have obviously figured out a way around that sort of thing and have come to accept that it is possible that folks didn't really have the perfect insight into the minds of the gods and the universe around them back in the iron age. How can an entire culture be so brutal? I just feel like I must be missing something.
No problem, you are always welcome in one of my threads, Ms. V!
The world has many dark corners - and we ignore them at our peril.
Many of the same nations where these abuses (particularly of women, but also of human beings in general) take place also tolerate actual human slavery as well. Including the buying and selling of human beings.
I have little tolerance for these people or their enablers. I consider these problems to be immune from the customary shields of "custom", "religion" or "national secrets".

As I posted before, WHERE ARE the womens groups?? Remember the aparthied in S Africa and all of the howls of protest and boycotts etc.? The protest and pressure put on to politicians by NOW and other women's groups for change and equal rights in not just the US and Europe but in other 3rd world countrys.
But the sound of silence is deafining when it comes to the treatment of women in Moslem countrys (and right here in the US by Moslems)
These womens groups are in it purely for the politics, their vile hatred of the guy in the White House blinds them to the fact that we have somewhat freed around 50 million women in a couple of countrys and given hope to millions more. But these orginazations would rather kill themselfs than to give the US and Bush any kind of credit, it is sickining!
By the way on CNN right now their is a special about women in Afghanistan, bottom line is, Islam is a hell for women!

XM,
An armed man is called a citizen.A disarmed man is called a subject.
Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah has pardoned a female rape victim who had been sentenced to 200 lashes for being alone with a man at the time of the attack who was not related to her, a Saudi newspaper reported Monday.
The case had sparked international outcry. In a rare criticism of its Mideast ally, the White House had expressed its "astonishment" over the woman's sentence. Canada called it barbaric.
Saudi Justice Minister Abdullah bin Muhammed al-Sheik told al-Jazirah newspaper that the pardon does not mean the king doubted the country's judges, but instead acted in the "interests of the people."

The problem is that it was considered a CRIME in the first place and she was not only charged for it but put on trial. Pardoning something indicates that a crime actually happened. Having SA as an ally is a crime against humanity in itself IMHO. It is like saying Joe can be your friend and “pal” no matter how much he beats his wife as long as he doesn’t beat yours. And out of good form I will not get into all my feelings concerning the US’s relationship with SA or what I think of them in general…..

LOL, right on.
I believe somewhere up-thread I mentioned how many American women and children are being held in virtual bondage in Saudi Arabia - hundreds and hundreds.
Any American woman reading this married to a Muslim should think twice about that "trip home to meet the folks".
You might well never come back. And don't for a moment believe your American citizenship will shield you from their local Sharia laws.

Hi again. It should be noted that this king said that he was convinced and sure that the verdict was fair. How in the world is that fair? The poor girl gets gang raped and the civil authorities decide that the best way to deal with this is to whip her to death? And this all sounds about right to the king?

Right on the money.
We are dealing with an alien culture - a literally "inhuman" culture - and at its most extreme, an "un-human" culture.
What frightens me is NOT that such things exist - its that we have powerful figures running THIS country that are perfectly willing to pretend they don't.
The wimpy "we're surprised" reactions from us and the Europeans managed to save this one woman who happens to have taken a BIG chance getting her story out to the media. Her original sentence was lighter - and she knew that if she sought help from the western media she would receive a harsh rebuke from the Shariah court - but she chose to take that risk. She is one courageous woman - and so is her lawyer, who has probably destroyed his career (and endangered his life and the lives of his family) by acting as her representative.
Westerners can take no pride in "saving" this one woman, when thousands more will silently bear the same penalties far away from the glare of world publicity. She saved herself. WE just demonstrated our own moral deficit by the paucity of our response, and the hundreds of our own that we leave there in durance vile.

Hi again. I have found that when one is really, really p1ssed off, an amazing level of courage can easily be summoned.
Top Iranian Cleric took time out of his busy Jehadist schedule (must have had beheadings and stonings scheduled back to back) to clarify his policy for women:
Hi again. Here's a thought. I wonder how this would work out. The State Department sends the saudis a message that says 'At 5 pm local time, a week from next thursday, there will be a 40 megaton hydrogen bomb detonated 4000 ft above the center of Mecca. You guys can do what you want to, but we would recommend total de-assification of the area.' and then plow up the glassy crater and subsidize pig farms for the entire area. Wait a month and repeat for Medina. Maybe that would start a push to have the crazies buried in the history books where they need to be.
