Prime minister already stated that under the freedom of speech principle he has no means of banning the movie. So Iran can protest all it wants or warn all it wants, it's not up to the dutch government. It's up to the one willing and daring to vent his personal opinion. Which is one of the principles upon the country bases itself.
Frankly, this isn't something international. It's purely internal affairs. The fact that they draw it toward religion makes people consider it to be an international point. And at that point some countries in the Middle-East feel a need to intervene.
Overall, I'm not worried about Iran's 'reconsideration of relationships'.
Thanks for the luck tho. Not sure if we're gonna need it, but all assistance is welcome

Our friends and allies in Afghanistan have arrested one of their Journalists (male) for downloading an article from the internet on the subject of the treatment of women in traditional Islamic societies.
He was tried and convicted of this "crime of hate against Islam", and has been sentenced to death.

I read where this is selling huge in the Netherlands right now.
First I've heard of it. Then again, I'm not that big on art. 112 votes, and generally rated 1.84 atm (on a scale from 0 to 5). So it's not deemed that good.
Reactions from bottom to top:
Quote:
Disgusting, bad comparison, disgusting, appalling, remove picture please, disgusting again, tasteless, shortsighted and sad, Wouldn't hang it on the wall tho freedom of speech is applicable here, shortsighted, unethical uncoherent and dumb, excellent work, decent job.
Overall, the tone hints at it being something most people do not like, and are against. I do agree with the freedom of speech principle, and thus the existance of the picture. It's one persons idea/opinion and he/she has the right to tell that to the world. We may not like it, but that does not diminish the right the person has to vent their views of the world.
I do find that picture tasteless, and wouldn't give it the light of day in my room. Like I said, I'm not big on art anyways.

This was just brought to my attention. Piece written by Geert Wilders. It's late so my translation might not flow all that well, but overall the gist should be clear. I find he does have a few points. And in case you're all wondering: what he's stating as the hypothetical situation has actually happened here.
OPINION, Geert Wilders
published January 22nd, 2008 22:33, modified January 23rd, 2008 10:48
The Hague - With the panicing reaction on a not yet aired Koranmovie, the dutch parliament shows that islam is an intolerant ideology, as stated by Geert Wilders.
Imagine that it had become known in November 2007, that I'd be making a movie to show the fascistical character of the Bible. Imagine that I'd written in an article and I'd filed a concept law to ban the Bible.
Would minister-persident Balkenende during his pressconference last Friday have spoken over a major crisis with international effects? Would there have been an extra meeting of ministers in the presence of terrorexpert Jousta at the Catshuis (place of residence of the minister-president). Would the head editors of the various news programs within the public TV broadcast system had to convey a meeting on how to handle the movie?
Would ministers of Justice, National Affairs and International Affairs have told me that the consequences for the national and international safety and my own safety could be huge? Would the National Coordinator of Counterterrorism have told me on Thursday that it isn't beyond reason that I'd have to leave the Netherlands (briefly) after the movie is released?
Would the Vatican, the nuntius or a few archbisshops of catholic nations preach the same tone of voice as the moefti's of Syria and Jerusalem, namely that I'd be responsible for all the bloodshed that would occur after the movie would be released? Would the various heads of police have received a letter which stated that the police should accept any complaint against me after the movie would've been aired, even if there is no criminal act involved? And also that special attention should be given to any christian officers, since they could've been insulted aswell?
Would ultraleft actiongroups with signs decorated with my head and the text 'extremist' been out protesting in various dutch cities? Would dhimmi (non-muslim in an islamic country) Doekle Terpstra have called me the 'Evil' to be stopped and assembled an actual comité, and would politically correct people from left to right have signed the comité's statement and published it in the newspaper with a discount?
Would mayors in the whole country have had meetings with priests and reverents to ask them to not let themselves be provoked? Would I have received many dozens of extra deaththreats during the last weeks? Would dozes of people have filed a complaint with the police against me and would the Department of Justice have taken the descision to either sue or not sue deliberatly up to after the movie would've been released?
Would dutch embassies in countries where a lot of christians live, such as Germany and Belgium, have written the dutch residents there and pulled their evacuation plans out of the drawer? Would many dutch companies have been afraid that due to the movie the export of products to countries where a lot of christians live could've been jeopardized?
Would a christian organisation and a GroenLinks-member of parliament have made a counter-movie? Would a christian dutch writer have started a 'guarddogorganisation' with the goal to sue anyone that would say anything that they'd deem would offend any christian, or christianity? Would an Italian christian member of parliament have threathened to call up their government to reconsider their relationships with the Netherlands?
Ofcourse not.
Since my movie however isn't targeting the Bible but the Koran, government, media, muslims and others have been in an hysterical fit for weeks. How can we explain this?
Firstly islam is an intolerant ideology that can't handle critsism. Whether it is about photo's of Sooreh Hera, the book 'The Satanic Verses' by Salman Rushdie, the movie 'Submission' by Ayaan Hishi Ali and Theo van Gogh, Danish cartoons, a joke by Rudi Carrell (dutch comedian), the opera Aisha and the Women of Medina, or the movie I announced, each and every time they incite strong reactions from the muslimworld. There seems to be no room within islam for things like selfreflection and selfcritisism. Also ones own responsibility and selfcontrol seem to have no place.
The grandmoefti of Syria claims that if broadcasting my movie would incite riots, I would be responsible for that. That is not only a schoolexample of a typical islamic attitude of pointing to another and never look at yourself, but above all it is in conflict with the western justicesystem. It is also giving a carte-blance for violence. It is the world up-side-down.
Secondly there is talk of fear. The emergency scenario's, talk with imams, instructions for police officers regarding taking up statements, and between the lines threathen me with a possible day in court, all demonstrate the condition of panic which is holding the dutch government in it's grasp at the moment. Fear again is shown to be a bad advisor.
Not the current cabinet Balkenende IV is ruling the Netherlands, islam does. We can never watch in silence as dhimmi's as our freedom and culture is being broken down by the islamic influences. And that a non-broadcasted movie of about 10 minutes could lead to economic boycots, riots and other bad things, states everything about the being of the islamic faith. Not about me.
The cabinet acknowledges with it's panic reaction that islam isn't comparable with christianity, but is a unique ideology. And that ideology asks for a different and unique approach.
The Koranmovie has proven it's worth with that already.

Dutch govt. to outlaw wearing of burkhas in government buildings and schools? More power to them, shows some guts, but...
Those riots are probably starting to warm up as we speak.
THIS JUST IN: Geert has been advised to leave the Netherlands by the National Coordiantor for Anti-Terrorism. Seems like the experts suspect releasing the movie might be dangerous to his health.

I want everyone to catch the decisive quote from the kind, peaceful, imam's prayer service for the Iowan legislature, where he exhorts allah to give muslims:
"...victory over all who disbelieve." and "Protection from the Great Satan".
Did all those morons in the Iowa legislature bow their heads and then say "Amen"?
(Gag reflex alert).

This is terrible. But then again, why not? Heck, we live in a country that had people DENIED the right to fly/display American Flags in their communities after 9/11 because it might "offend" someone.
People need to wake up.

The shackles of opression and dependence are most easily slipped on with a smile and kind words of hope.
Bangladesh, the swamp that used to be the other half of Pakistan (but escaped) just saw a mob of muslims burn a 70 year old woman to death to prevent her from being baptized as a Christian.
For the record: burning old people just for their religious beliefs = a bad thing.
