I would like to start off by saying HI! and out of all the mustang forums i liked all the feed back that people were getting for there questions here at AFM and my question for all you experts is what should i do for rebuilding my 289 n my 66 coupe with a C4 tran I plan to use this car for my daily drive but i want a little more HP then the stock HP something like the 250-300 range i do not know a whole lot about cars but i want to learn so i plan on doing as much of the work as i can i dont want to put all my money n to the engine couse i want to redo the exhaust next i been think about keeping the heads i been told 66 heads were good for stock heads and i plan to convet it to EFI i found someone selling all the parts off a 5.0 for only $700 so i dont think i want to replace the cam couse the fireing order is defferent n newer 5.0 and ill have to replace it then. well i dont want to type to much but if anyone has any good upgrade tips for me or i said something wrong just leave a reply thanks

Welcome to AFM!

If you want EFI in your '66 then just drop a whole 5.0L from 1985-1995 in there. It's superior in every way to what came on your 289. I guess you could bolt some of the parts onto the 289 but it doesn't really make sense if you ask me. I think you'd be robbing yourself of power. The 5.0L was a roller block and even had forged pistons for many of those 10 years.

I see. You can get a whole used 5.0L HO engine for about $500 or so and then freshen it up with a rebuild though I'd probably do the 351W in the '66 since you can build that as you go.
