1988 Stang that has been sitting in the heat for three years
What would you do before trying to start this car??
Long story but I pretty much gave the car to my little bro and he ran it into the ground for 2 years and then let it sit in the heat for three years after blowing the trany. I am at the stage of wanting to get it back up and running. Any advise regarding the restoring of this ride would be helpful.
Oh and any leads on a cheap/good transmission would be helpful, needs to fit the fox body 1988 gt mustang.
You need to remove the fuel tank, drain all the gas out, clean it thoroughly, coat the inside to prevent corrosion and probably replace the fuel lines.
Modern gas is terrible when it sits around, and can ruin an engine if started with it. I had to learn this the hard way.
There are firms that provide tank cleaning service and coating. It will probably cost you $200.

Thanks for the fast reply and I didn't think of coating the gas tank.
Sorry to hear you didn't get great advice like you have given me. I will do this for sure. I was also thinking to change out the rear end, engine oil, and antifreeze. Would this all be needed?
Oh there should be no question that you should drain out and replace every fluid and lubricant/filter in the car. I mentioned the gas because I was of the school that it was just something that was going to get used up anyway...
