Question Newbie saying hello, and asking for a little advice

What's up everybody! Been checking out your forums for a couple weeks now, and thought it'd be a good idea to join up. I recently purchased a 2002 Mineral Gray Mustang GT......I absolutley love it and am anxious to start modifying it. I'm all about speed for now, and will put the window dressings on it later on down the road. So, I know this question has been asked many times but I still have to ask.....what are your suggestions to beef it up?.....not going to SC it for awhile so where should I start.....if you had a basically stock 02 GT and $2500 to start the mods where would you begin...already have intake and exhaust. Anyways thanks for letting me join and can't wait to meet some cool people with badass stangs.

I guess it is all up to you... Some people start with exterior ans some with interior! I started with exterior! I have a 2002 Mustang GT Roush series. I stared with putting a 50 shot wet type direct port NOS system. Now I am working with interior. Let me know if you need some ideas.

one of the first mods to start with are definetly GEARS, better suspension for better launch, lightening up the car and recouping some $$$$$$, better cam and heads will help the motor perform and breathe....also look at better headers either short/long tube....really depends on how much power you want...that should get you to a good start

Modulars like gears , 3.73 for manuals, 4.10s for automatics, underdrive pulleys also offer some decent power.
Witt that money you can do the above plus beef up the suspension, change the rear lower control arms.

First thing I would do personally is to set out a plan/goal/finance.

Then I'd plan it out as to how soon the amount of money can be shelled out.

Assuming everything was ok, I'd then research the suspension for the type of driving I'd be doing. Road-racing vs drag racing vs street driving. Buy the suspension from one company as a package deal. Not forgetting tires being the more important part of the equation.
.frame reinforcements
.suspension
.tires
.brakes

Having set the foundation of the vehicle and knowing what kind of driving, I'd then turn my researching powers to either forced induction or naturally aspirated setups.

I'm sure the more experienced guys can help you out more once you've decided upon a specific route.

I would say start big. I know you said you didn't want SC now but for the money/performance gains cant be beat. Gears are good! You can spend a lot of money on exhaust, intake, heads & cams, underdrive puley, aluminum driveshaft, handheld programmer. With all that you would not get half the hp but would have about the same amount of money in it. The best site I have found is probably www.rpmoutlet.com
I am not a fan of nitrous but some are I like my power everytime I hit the gas.

Welcome!

If you already have $2500 budgeted, I'd recommend just hanging onto it, saving another grand or so and going with the S/C
