I work with a guy who always ribs my about my "Tin Pony". He kept wanting to line up against his punched out '65 Chevelle. I knew better & said to line up his '70 Corvette 350 4BBL. instead. I figured that it might be more of an even race. Comparable HP ratings, weight favors him, he's got IRS. Ok, line 'em up for fun. "No way, $25 bucks a gear," he says. "Fine." He's kind of cocky that week leading up to the race, then, people kept coming over & telling me he'd asked about my car. Not so long story shorter, we ran about a 1/4 mile & he had me out of the hole ( I burned out and barked into 2nd. It was pretty much over at that point and I had about two lengths at the end. I know, FI & better technology dictated a win for me ,but, I wasn't the one pushing for a race. I didn't get into 4th till I was on the finish line (4:10's may help ).
This year more of the same only a push for the Chevelle/Mustang race. I want more & better mods before this so I don't get flogged TOO bad. I'm guessing he's got at least 450 hp. I remember my adrenaline rush & my right leg twitching after it was over. First real race in this car. The $100 bucks felt good ,too !
just run the Chevy for fun or put up $50 of your winnings. you still walk away ahead even if you lose. then you can gauge what you would need to mod on your car based on how bad you lose.
ya never know. you just might win. just because he may have 450 hp, doesn't mean he knows how to put it down on the ground.
but, i would suggest you learn to launch your car so you don't burn up 1st and part of 2nd gear.

I had a tuner from a company that I am very displeased with and their CAI. After a mod-friendly dealer reflashed my car, I vow to deem Bamachips tunes & street CAI as the word. I want the Magnaflow catted X-pipe and a exhaust shop here will bend the rest up to the Boomtubes.
The tune/intake/exhaust will be it this year & I will probably just race my buddy for the cash I'd won last year. Some LCRs might help. I was too jittery on the start; that's most of my launch error. I've gotten better since last year.
A supercharger is on the scope for next year.
Sweet kill. It's fun beating old muscle cars. I beat my dad in his '72 el camino, it was great because it was the car of yesterday and then a car of today. Only thing though, you may of got $100 but probably already wasted half of it in gas racing dang gas prices
