a friend of mine just got his hands on a 06 impreza wrx and wants a piece of the stang. i already expect him to be faster off the line but from what ive seen im sure i can catch him somewhere around 60-70 mph. his is the stock 2.5 liter with the stock turbo. those are rated at 230 hp right? you guys think i can handle this one?
you should have him, esp with your mods. go out there, smoke him, then tell us how it went

Hmmmm.....so just cause he has a mustang he gets the nod? You're looking at simliar hp/weight ratios with one car having awd. Both cars put probably close to 230hp to the ground, but the wrx is almost 200lbs lighter. I'll bet on the awd car on the street all day, every day.
You should also watch out for the '09's. They'll give you a nice raping.

werent the wrx's rated at 230 hp at the crank? and ive got a better gear ratio so im not sure it will be an easy race but i have a feeling that i will come out on top in this one
they are rated at 230 at the crank, thats probably a little under 200 to all four wheels, you will probably fall behind for a split second, but your 4.10's and extra hp will have you ahead in no time

if he can drive it he can take you off the line but you should win if hes stock. look out if he gets his turbo psi boosted up i think there stock psi is like 10-12 and that can be boosted without internals done.

I agree, those WRX's are quick, also take in the fact that he has 4.10's and no drag radials that's alot of ground to make up off of the line. I hate to say it but I'm goin to have to go with the wrx. Stock your Cobra came with only 10 hp more, but his car is lighter.

Some of you guys are funny. At best, he's 30hp over the other car. The wrx is about 200lbs less. Maybe a 10hp advantage then....10hp is about 1 car length at the 1/4 mile. With 4.10's on street tires....he's gonna lose more than a 1 car advantage off the line to an awd car (of course, if your friend can drive).
The comments like "you'll smoke him" "you'll catch up to him in no time" crack me up, Keep 'em coming. If he does win, it'll be by 2 cars at most if they both have a clean run. That's not "smokin'" anyone, sorry. This race will be decided on whether you can get out of the hole or not with your 4.10's, if you can't....those 4.10's won't make up for the ground you lost.
You guys are forgetting that the wrx has slightly shorter gears than his T-5. The WRX also has a 3.7 final drive ratio. His 4.10's aren't giving him THAT much of an advantage. It's more like making the playing field even, compared to the disadvantage the cobra would have with stock gearing.
Look up the term net torque, read about it for a little while, then see if you can apply it to this situation.

They dyno about 200-210 to the wheels.

I'm thinking that if you arnt carefull, those 4.10 gears without stickies might do more harm than good.
But overall I think you have the advantage, only for the fact that you have had your car longer than him. Becuase it sounds like this will come down to the drivers more than the cars. Just dont spin to bad and go balls out. I think you will do fairly good.
