Best engine ever? No.
Great bang for the buck yeah.

My point. Dont bash the poor old 5.0. Without it who knows if there would still even be a Mustang. The Mustang might of just been the Ford Probe.

V-8 Guys dont bash the V6. Since it makes up the majority of sales its the backbone of keepin the Mustang rolling. Is it the fastest? No. But its a great starting point for a build up or it works great for someone who just likes the Mustangs looks and does not care about timeslips.

Funny how on Chevy forums those guys have more respect for the 5.0 than some Mustang Lovers!!!
^ yep... my friend got a 83? z28. he still looks at my car and says it looks better, than my camaro, but ill still take ya. i tell him its the hoofbeat of america.

Actually there are v4s. Honda Manga. LoL. And as far as the 5.0 and the 4.0 modding, the 5.0 is WAY cheaper to mod. Just FYI. I spent under 400 bucks to get into the 12s. Can't do that with, heck any of them.

I'm not even gonna lie. A week after I got My Mustang a 07 V6 Mustang was messing with me in my modded 94 5.0 Stang. He would get next to me and downshift and punch it. And I remember his muffler sounded like a dam jet or turbo. it was a single muffler and sounded funny. kinda cool. we pulled to a red light and I had My Cobra Rims which had good tires and so i launched higher then i should had and i had bad wheel spin all the way through 1st gear and i still pulled him. after that i never pulled more than half a car from him 0 to 70MPH. I was Ashamed.

What do the V6's run stock 1/4 miles? I seen one do 14.47 @ 97MPH on Youtube but wasn't stock.

funny reading this thread bc i raced a 89 gt not to long ago... with headers work cai and exhaust... think that was it. i was really suprised i pulled so much on it =/ . Since i love those cars so much. i beat him by almost 2 car length. race went like this first gear he took (wasnt my best launch ) 2nd i took 3rd i pulled n didnt stop pulling till the end of the backroads. (where we raced at). the 5.0 sounded sick tho lol. but arent they badly geared. running on 2.27 on something like that? v8s are great, great power and sound but man to me a mustang v6 torbo'ed sounds so sick. has everyone listen to one in real life... its beautiful lol but then again i have always been a big fan of ... dont know how to put it but of a straight up mean sounding engine. raspy i guess but just roaring. like the lt1 ls1 engine or the 5.0 gt mustang with flows or slp. if u try putting flows or slp on the new 4.6 engines it just doesnt sound the same as it use to. man i love that sound... im ranting on now but hope ya understood me (btw i dont suggest slp on a v6 lol)

I dont think so... Because 03-04 Cobras can smash GTs, Machs, Bullitts, and older cobras into the ground and ALL of those V8 stangs would rape a 6 cylinder car.
LOL!!! Do you seriously think that nothing short of a boosted V8 can beat a 03 Cobra? I know 4cyls that would beat me.

Wow I haven't bee on this site in a while, and i can see some things don't change.

First of all your raced on the street starting at what speed? When moving.? Sorry I just dont' get it.

To me my friend a race is from a standing start. Take both cars to the track and thats where the bs stops.

Im sure Ican catch any one off guard in my daily driver 2.2 L Accord and say I beat them in a "race"

The whole thread became a bunch of bashing and really redundant replies, and the main point was missed about both of them going to the track, which never materialzed.

So some like V6's othersdo not. Let them like what they want. I personally dont care what it is . If it has a motor and four wheels it will interest me intrigue me.

I'm 40 and I'm partial to old school V8. That's just me. Would I ever
bash another car ? No, especially another Mustang. The thing you learn when you go drag racing at a track is SPORTSMANSHIP. I meet new people all the time at the track from all walks of life and it doen't matter if it's a new car or old. Sure its competive but most of all we have fun doing it.

I had mentioned this in a previous post long time ago. The track doesn't lie. We only have a once a year event at a converted track but it works, Also at a track, it clearly shows where the driver skill is and just how "fast" each car is. I used to race on the street too, from stoplight to stoplight. Was it stupid yes. We had no track so that was our only way to guage how "fast" a car was. I know it's still done today, where people have no race tracks. So the bragging is from street racing, and not a controlled environment.

On the street though, is not a true indication of what a car does. I know all those years ago I would never get traction when the light turned green, on street tires on regular asphalt.I was young and not as wise as I am today. . So did people say they beat a 5.0? Im sure they did.

However, when we opened the race track in 1999 I brought that same old5.0 that would get occasionaly beat on the street, and put slicks on it and it was a completely different car.

I don't race on the street these days. I know what my car does at a track , and I dont feel the need to go looking to race on the street.

Take it to the track and have a "real race" and let us know how you make out.

Just my .02 cents

Vince.

My experience comes only from the track, where it counts. Real racers don't street race......

Line up to a 94/95 5.0 and you just might take it (as long as no major work is done). I haven't even tried in my 95 for YEARS, It's no fun losing to just about everything /sigh
