Default Got killed today ... literally ! Help needed , opinions on what to do....

Ok guys you are going to laugh about it.. but thats ok, i knew it could happen but i did expect it to happen now..

My opinion is that there was an internal damage before i got tuned properly because my dumb ass decided to step on it a little a week before tuning thiking my NY map would be ok in TX.. back then car was weird for few days and then everything was ok..but at low speeds 20-30mps i noticed a tap and had that ever since , i thought it was valves and it was ok.. anyway read on

I decided to take a drive today and log with my FIC my stumbling and running rich issues.. Anyway i was on low boost 6psi setting and just when i turned on the logger with FIC software on my laptop floored it a little car stumbled and i let off did the same again and the car started to go in boost and then POP and alot of smoke behing i immediately shut the engine off..

Pulled over smoked cleared out, looked in the engine lots of oil and hole in the short block ( at the top of short block ) and oil everywhere i took pictures and will upload them tomorrow.

Now here is the issues with desicion:

I'm deploying to Iraq in september and i was looking to built the engine when i get back next year for now all i needed is the engine to survive until september of this year. I dont know why it blew maybe i did some damage before i got tuned its unknown. whats should i do put the car back to stock and trade it in for an Evo or a mustang ? or get the short block built ?

the problem is that i have a hole in the short block and dezod or ptuning require block to be sent to them.
I would want to go with Dezod in that case.

So i want to hear your opinions guys.

Also i dont want to start financing a new car simply because i wont be here to enjoy it but at the same time i need to spend decent money now to have built.

So what should i do ?

Sorry to here that man.

You didn't literally get killed though... Es obvio!

Anyways... An Evo/Stang sounds good to me, but I know you love your little tC. I'd say you'll have quit some time to think about it... But it all depends on what you want.

As you have kind of already seen, its not to easy to make a tC super super fast. An Evo and Mustang (well at least the Mustang) can make HUGE power very easily.

It's all up to you man! What are you thinking?

Sounds like you need a cheap beater to get you through the summer

I'd honestly say go with an Evo or something ( coming from a tC the mustang would feel like a pig) That is unless you're enjoying the FWD experience.
I've become a big fan of the LS platform recently. It may just be because I can find my favorite ones in much lighter platforms. (corvette, F-bodies, etc.) Buy a C6 Z51 and TT it for maximum destruction. If I was going to the military that's what I'd be building when I came back for RWD madness.

But realistically it sounds like just building the block would be a much cheaper option. You'd just be out of a motor for a while. Shame though, now we can't run

Considering your in a Mustang Forum...Id say go with a Mustang ....Theres so much to do and wont cost an arm and leg to do so. Just an Idea. An evo aint bad either....But im leaning towards Mustang haha. Just my 2 cents

The evo or the mustang if you decide to turbo it will make good power, but building up your short block with forged internals for even more boost next time seems very tempting in my mind.....

I still owe money on the tC and was looking to have it paid off while being in the sand box.

Lets take a look. I can probably sell all my stuff for about

Turbo kit for about $2000
Gauges for about $500
FIC and PNP Harness $500
Greddy boost controller $200-$250

and to take it off and put the car to stock prolly will cost me about $500 bucks.

so all in total i can get around $2,500 out of this mess right now ( give or take ).

Built short block will be about $3500, plus install about $500-$700 plus tuning about $350. we are under 5 grand. and considering if my head is not damaged that would be it for now 'till i come back. Even with this i would be able to max out my turbo at 400WHP. on around 15 psi ( at the block will hold it this time )

I was looking for some blocks last night obviously Ptuning came to mind but they charge ar and leg.. i will call them today and see if they give military discount and what it will be in total.
Then i will call Dezod, but on their website i can get stock brand new short block for 2400 before military hook up.

then i looked at ERL performance and they also offer built short blocks. basically a block that handles up to 500hp will be 3300+shipping , a block that handles over 500hp is 3800+shipping and block that handles something like 300-400 hp is 2100+shipping regular price.

so..... cheapes way to go about this is that cheap block for 2100 and at least it would hold 300whp easy.

trading this is and getting a new ride i think will cost alot more then building short block..as much i would love to get an Evo or STI or a Saleen. I dont think its worth it..i want a secured living property when i come back so thats my reason not to blow money away on a new car and stick with this one.

what do you think guys ?

or theres always another option, try to find a long block from a junkyard or something for a 1000 put it in sell all my stuff and drive a stock tC or sell it before deployment , come back from Sandbox and then lease or purchase a new vehicle ( again spending money and making payments) ..

That's a tough one Russ.

If it were me I'd just cut my losses and go the cheapest route possible right now. Make us proud on your deployment, save all you can and set yourself up for some toys when you get back. It might be hard to go without in the short term but think of the rewards when you get back!

I truly am sorry to hear of the tC grenading. Try and look at it as a blessing in disguise that is setting you up for another great car in the future...

man bummer bro.well there is a few options.
You can build the block, and what not, since your already making payments on the tc,it would be waste to trade it in,since cars go down in value so fast.you might be negative on the trade depending how much you owe.
Or You can be patient, and get a cheap daily driver,it might not be too dependable since your drving to washington right??but there are some decent cars for maybe 4 or 5k.then you can just keep it or sell it when you leave to iraq.save up all your cash, then you can decide when you have that money on hand when you come back.
if you do the trade in route i wouldnt get an evo,too expensive.im sure your talking about a new car,so 30k sounds like your budget.you can find a new 09 gt im sure for a hefty rebate.but you want a saleen!!lol.so it all depends man.Plus if you do get a new car where will you store it?i wouldnt store a new car.
so with that said , i would do the patience part, drive something cheap until september, then when you come back youll have the money to do whatever you want,AND youll be able to enjoy it!!!

Frist off, very sorry to hear about your car! I would suggest buying the 2100$ block and rebuilding your tC. While of course I'd suggest buying a mustang, it sounds like you've put a hefty amount of work into your tC and it's cheaper than buying a new car. Also you'd be able to keep your turbo unlike if you went with a junkyard block. Best of wishes with your tour in september

Thanks guys for all your support !

I have decided that buying a new car is not really a good option money wise. yes i'm still paying for tC so i'll keep it.
And i can get built motor with these specs for 2100
2AZ Mild Street: stock sleeves : $2160.00 + shipping

300-450whp

Crank: SCION
Rods: K1
Pistons: WISECO 9.0:1 1mm overbore
Bearings: ACL (main, rod, and journal)

or i also got an email from ERL performance today and heres what they have READY TO SHIP.

Thank you for looking into our product. I have a short block already sleeved, and assembled for a street turbo application. It has in it JE pistons, K-1 rods, ACL bearings, assembled short block, fully blueprinted and ready to have the head put on it. It has the 89 mm 9.0:1 compression JE pistons in it.

the price for this is 3260 shipped. And its able to hold 500WHP easy. the only thing is i need to get them a core since i have a whole in my block i need to buy one. and if i factor everything its going to be decent amount of money.
lets see

3260-built block
300-600-core
500 to swap it
300-500 tune

and thats almost 5K bucks. tempting but i think a little too much...

so i think i'll go with that cheaper option for 2100 yeah its able to hold less power and it using stock sleeves but more budget friendly and meets my current power goals. If i'll be pushing 400WHP safely on that new built block i'd be happy and definatly bring some surprise to unexpecting drivers of other cars.

what do you guys think between these 2 ?

like i said i'm leaning towards that second option, and they have have it built in 2 weeks.

I'd have to agree with you on the 2100$ block. Even if you don't make anymore power you won't have to worry about sudden cases of a heavy right foot and like you said it meets your budget. And if you make alittle more power while your at it then that's just an added bonus.

yup and plus it would be safer and more boost friendly. And when i come back from my "vacation" if i still have desire and interest in doing anything i can always send it off to sleeve it and port-n-polish the head while at it and then sky is the limit.. But really i think 400WHP scion tC will do alot or damage to the hearts of cocky drivers.

How much different in design are the JE or weisco pistons than stock? What rings are they using? What's the stock bearing clearances, and what are those bearing clearances on those two blocks? Is there a thicker ringland on either pistion (not so close to the top of the piston)?
