My wife and I went out for a cruise tonight, the weather here was perfect. On our way home we pass a Honda Civic. Minutes later we end up meeting at a red light. It's a long stretch of pavement and no cars in sight. I thought I heard someone revving their engine and look behind me to see the Civic pulling up beside us. I roll down the passenger window to see this teen, he's all smiles, and says, "I know I'm going to get beat, it's mostly stock, but oh well..." My wife laughs. He wanted a show and I was going to give it to him. Seconds later the light turns green, we both gun our engines. After I spin the tires at the start, again going into second, and again going into third I'm going about 70 so I hit the brake and look in the rearview. He's lagging about an 1/8th mile behind and as expected he ends up flying by me, but giving me a thumbs up and turns on his hazards for a few seconds.
It's a rare experience to be recognized by a "ricer" owner and it was refreshing to see someone not acting all cocky, he knew what he had and didn't deny it.

Not that it matters, but in the future you could hit your flashers once you have won, and then the other driver probably wouldn't flash their hazards. Like I said, not that it matters, since he knows that he got beat.

You'd be surprised, a lot of kids drive those because they can't afford anything else. Doesn't always mean they wouldn't drive a stang
Oh, yeah, I realize that. It's that you don't meet up with them a lot. I was there once, never drove a ricer, but started with the first truck I could afford. We all have to start somewhere.

im glad to see some respect being shown. my buddy has a 90 honda civic with a turbo and has pretty much a fully built engine and will tear my car to shreds. he gives anyone who will race a thumbs up no matter what car it is. i wish everyone were like him

yeah, my first car was a 94 civic that my parents gave to me because it wasn't worth anything. but it's what got me around for about 2 years before i bought my mustang, and it's how i learned to drive a standard transmission.
I don't dis kids working their way up the performance ladder, my first car was a Vega. I am impressed by people that give respect where due, and recieve respect gracefully when I give it to them.

I do the same thing.. i think everyone deserves a respect no matter which car they drive. ( i usually don't race shitbags so whoever i run i give thumbs up )
but i dont drive a civic, i got a skeeon. Sucks that it would be ready to run just in time for my deployment and since the car will be in NY and I in WA i won't even get a chance to drive it before going to the sandbox
I guess i'll have to wait...

i blame my current Civic on my ex-girlfriend. she really wanted it and with the price of gas rising like it was, i ended up going along with it mostly just to make her happy. what a mistake. dont get me wrong, it is a good car. just a tremendously underpowered one.
it'll be gone soon. then im back into Mustang-ville
