I was driving my almost stock 2004 3.8l 5spd stang home for my lunch break. All I had done at the time was intake and exhaust. Then out of no where some kind of white car pulls up next to me. I had no clue what the heck it was. He asked if I wanted to race, and of course, I agreed. We waited until we got to the redlight. When the light turned green I nailed the gas. I always beat people off of the line, just not this time. This guy launched like a bat out of hell. I am about a 1/4 legnth behind him when we hit third gear. We hit fourth gear and he pulls even more. He slows down and lets me catch up, and I asked him what the heck kind of car he had. He replied, "08 WRX." I have never lost to a WRX before, so I asked what he had under the hood. He said a 2.5l turbo. Apparently the 2.5t is alot quicker than the older 2.0t. I still can't believe i got beat by a Suburu. lol I gave him a thumbs up, said nice race and proceeded on home.
well the reg wrx does have 170hp and 170tq, which i can see you beating but the turbo has like 30hp more than your car. If it was an STI it would have put a few car lenths on you. But we can't win them all.
Oh, i thought the 2004 V6 got the 3.9 liter?

Some 04's do have the 3.9. My old 04 auto had a 3.9l. But the 5spd I have now is a 3.8l. IDK why. Most shops that I took my 3.9l to had no idea that the 3.9l even existed. They always thought that I didn't know what engine I had, until they looked under the hood and saw where it said 3.9l. lol Oh and it was definately not an STI. The new WRX impreza's (the one I raced) come with the 2.5l(same as STI just smaller turbo i guess). If I would have raced an STI I would not have had a chance.

When I get back to the states I will be throwing a few grand into my car. I think I will be able to take him when I am done. What do you think? I will be adding: 4.10 gears, posi, aluminum driveshaft, tuner, clutch and flywheel, and short throw shifter.
I am waiting until I turn 25 then I am going to buy a 2004 SVT Cobra, which is why I decided not to do f/i on this one. I want to do everything but f/i with this car. I want to put most of my money in the Cobra.
the new wrx sti's have a little over 300hp and obviously turbo'd. theyr extremely quick and launch very fast because of the awd. i wouldnt even try to seriously race one in my 5.0.
they started putting 3.9L's like halfway thru 04.. theyre exactly identical to the 3.8's just the stroke is slightly different i believe.. dont even think there is any power difference between the 3.8 and 3.9
actually, i just got rid of my old 04 3.9L and i beleive they do have like 2 or 4 extra horses, it probably makes little to no difference at all, and the 3.9 and/or 3.8L (I am almost 85% sure its the 3.8L) is used in the Ford Windstar Van. Just my $.02
