Default Delusional/Misinformed Three Way

On the way home from a fairly recent Friday night excursion to Outback (cheese fries=kryptonite) my buddy and I were playing around on the expressway. He drives an 05 GTP with cai, pulley, tune, and magnaflow exhaust. We came up on a bad looking 05+ GT. It sounded mean and had a Shelby? body kit. It was quick, down and dirty for me. We took him from a 30mph roll and I easily put about 3 lengths on the stang with my buddy hanging door to door with him. That was the end for me, but they had at it from the next light and were door to door. This wouldn't have been anything unusual except, apparentyl the stanger told my friend, while they were at the light, that he had a bunch of work done and like 400 rwhp. BULL! I don't imagine my car puts down more than about 265hp 310ft/lb. He's either full of it or has been ripped off. I'm sorry for him either way.

Nice kill either way. I think he should take it to the dyno to find out one way or the other.

Not real sure where the GTP falls. When he had his dyno'd, it was being run by goons and they didn't get a good read. We estimate it around 260hp 290ft/lb at wheels. It's damn quick for a sedan! He likes to abuse ricers. I would almost trade him....kind of attached to my old beat up pony though.

sounds like a dressed up V6. doncha think?

if you are RWHP'ing 265/310, then three car lengths would be about right against a 05+ V6.

It didn't sound like a 6, and if it were a 6 both of us would have destroyed him. I eat stock GTs and so does my friend. The guy did manage to hang with the Pontiac. So...no. Not a V6.

I'm not baggin on new mustangs, because I love em. Great power from the factory, awesome styling, and the price can't be beat. But why, why, why does everyone think they are so fast? I think there is some misinformation out there. I was beating new GTs and earlier 4.6 stangs when all I had was headers and diy port&polish on my stock intake. I have yet to lose to a new mustang. The only time I was absolutely spanked was by a late LS1 TransAM. Just putting it out there. That's my opinion. That and dollar might buy ya a soda somewhere.

Not sure, my 05GT stock put down 263rwhp, then a few bolt ons and it was pushing 293rwhp. Then with cams, 330rwhp on canned tune. I think the stock tune makes them feel sluggish but even a canned tune wakes them up.
either the guy can't drive or it was a V6. definitely not putting what you have down though. just saying. I know my 95 GT when it had a few bolt on's vs. my 05GT with some bolt ons, i would have smoked my 95GT. Though what i did on down the road to my 95GT would have smoked my 05GT.
Oh and 400rwhp, he was probably making that up unless he had full bolt on's and nitrous or supercharged.

I'm done with you people. Every time I beat a new GT it just stirs up more "It must have been a V6". Do you all honestly think there are that many V6 mustangs running around with GT badges? This isn't open to interpretation. Fact is - I beat the snot out of new V8 mustangs. They aren't that fast.

Well as a Mustang owner on both sides of the fence ( 5.0 and a 4.6) I can say that they 5.0s are faster with basic mods, especially if the motor is built with a good set of heads/intake/ etc. If the 5.0 is making 265 rwhp (about 300 at the flywheel) and so is the 4.6 (05+ GTs) then if the drive train is similar and the drivers are about equal, then the 5.0 will win. Why? BECAUSE OF WEIGHT!

I love the new body style and the 2010s are just dead sexy, but they are just too heavy to compete with a an old fox thats making power. Now stock for stock there is no contest. Congratulate the guy for having a quick 5.0 and get over it. Doesnt matter how fast you car is there is always someone faster or atleast there will be, eventually.
