So I'm out riding today not too far from my house on a divided highway. I'm in the slow lane at a red light and out of no where an Evo MR comes up beside me. I usually notice nice cars coming up on me but this one caught me off guard. I'm still stock with 3.31 gears and the Evo was quiet so I'm guessing it was too. We're looking each other's cars over and waiting on the light. Across the intersection there is a railroad crossing meaning we can't go from a stop. With what seemed to be the same thought, we both took off easily, staying beside each other in 1st gear. We crossed the tracks at about 10 mph and both hit the gas with perfect timing. The Evo immediately put a car length on me but I stayed in it. He shifted a little earlier than me and about the time I finished second gear we were neck and neck. I go to third and I'm still pushing hard. (The highway was desolate, I swear.) The Evo is putting up a fight and neither of us can pull away. Now the bad part. We're coming up on a curve (Doing about 120 at this point) but before we can get there, a cop comes around it and immediately hits his lights and dives into the median. I instictively lock it down but I'm still running about 90 when I pass him. (limit is 55) The Evo never lets out and keeps going. I pull over and the cop stops and runs to my window with gun in hand and tells me to wait on another patrol car and then jumps back in his car and takes off after the Evo. I'm so shocked and scared that I sit there about ten seconds and realize I'm probably going to jail so I leave and come home. I haven't gotten any calls so I guess he didn't get my tag. I don't know what happened to the Evo driver. This has taught me that I need to keep it on the track, even though I have never endangered a bystander while racing. Ya'll be careful out there.
Lesson learned I would hope for your sake, be safe and my signature says it all

I wouldnt drive that car around there for a month.
No doubt. I had to go to the bank a little later but I took my old Cherokee. It really sucks because I have maybe ran on the street only three or four times since I've had either of my Stangs. I would have beat him in my 08 though. 305 at the wheels and 4.10s would've bruised his ego if my new stock car(which feels slow still) ran even with him.
What would have happened if that cop lost it when he crossed the median, and hit one or both of you head on? I can tell you this much, we wouldn't be reading this post. We might be hearing about you on the news. A tragic accident happened today, while on patrol an officer lost control of his patrol car while chasing down two street racers. Now live with that on your conscience, do you think you could I know I couldn't. That's one big reason, that you should keep it on the track. As we all know, it's just as dangerous there if one crosses the line, Mike. SCT Tuner.
almost the same as what i did. i was racing one of the turbo'd saturn sky's. we hit about a hundred before we both backed off and turned onto another road. we were rolling at about 40 when we noticed some headlights behind us. unsure of what it was, we hung back and waited for it to pass us. it pulls up next to us and locked it's eyes in a death stare with me when we realized it was a cop. evidently it was on it's way to another call because it never pulled us over. i then found out if a cop is on it's way to a call, it can't pull you over unless you're an immediate threat to someone else's life. i u-turned pretty darn quick and got out of there kind of like you did. definately the smart thing to do.

I hear you man. You don't have to tell me cause I know. I always considered myself safe during the rare times I race but today showed me that it's never gonna be completely under control. You're probably gonna be real ticked when you hear we were only about four miles from Atlanta Dragway. Of course, they weren't open today.
better put it up untill spring or sell it and buy a new one hes gonna rember you and your car wouldnt you just **** if he was a member of the forums and read this
Wow, man...Ya know that "oh sh*t" feeling you get when you're over the limit and pass a cop? I'll bet you about had a heart attack. You better be glad the Evo kept going, and the cop chased him, otherwise you'd be walking/biking to work for a looong time. I thought the story was gonna be worse though...especially the part about coming to a corner doing 120 mph. Thought for sure you were gonna say the other guy wadded up his Evo and died or something.
Stay safe, bro...

LOL if the EVO did run it had no chance. The Crown Vic with interceptor packages are fast ( assuming that whatyour local PD uses as there primary cars). I remember when i was doing a ride along with my local PD. We were responding to a crash, let me just say they have no problem going from 0-60 in a hurry.
Crown Vic Police Interceptors use 250hp version of the 2V 4.6. and weigh around 4,000 pounds. Considering that Evo just ran even with a 300 hp 3valve that weighs 3,500 lbs, I think it could take one. I doesn't matter though. It was an Impala.
Well, if anything, they'll show up to your house before the cops would call you. If they don't show up within a day, maybe 2, then you might have no worries. Street racing up to some crazy speeds has never made sense to me. What is a stop light to 50mph race vs a 50 to 120mph going to prove. I would do the stop light one before the high speed one any day. I've known guys with Terminators that have to race to 150mph for some reason. They get in that neck to neck race and keep pushing the limits of their rides and their life.
At least you learn something from it. Alot of guys don't though.
+1 about the crown vic. the interceptor package is usually stuff to prolong the engine life or suspension too, i believe.
And your car vs that evo mr sounds about right. they're 300HP and weight isn't to far off, so the evo had to be stock too.

Wow crazy story man. I wasnt expecting you to say you just took off after he stopped ya lol. But anyways, I doubt he got your tag cuz if he did you probably would have heard something by now. However I thought thats the first thing cops do when then get ready to pull a car over, although I guess he had his hands full this time.
