Default Mustang vs BMW

After today, I got to wondering, can a v6 mustang take a bmw? I don't know what kind of bmw it was, and i couldn't really tell from our "racing". The problem was the interstate had way too much traffic to really gun it. I just wonder, if we had a straight run without traffic, who would win? I think bmw's probably can probably run with mustangs, but i wanted some opinions

I know my moms 325i has has only 184HP. Its an 03 model. But it depends on the model some
330 model- 225 Hp.
525 model -184 HP
the 540 model-290 HP
the 745 model-325 HP
M series w/V6-333 HP
w/V8-394 HP

So your assumption is in a way correct. Some BMW's can run with mustangs, some cannot some can out run them. All depends on the model though.

Thats the thing about Mercs and Beamers. For the un-initiated, its hard to tell the 35k models from the 85k models.

a good way to tell if the BMW might be quick is the series. A 318i BMW is a 3 series with a 1.8 liter motor. thus, 318. The i stands for injected. Back when fuel injection was just coming out and a big selling tool.

325i is a 3 series with a 2.5 liter.
740i is a 7 series with a 4.0 liter

you get the idea.

And one other note. "M" is their "SVT". Just so you know. Right now the M3 cranks 333HP from an I-6 and the M5 is pumping 507HP from a V-10.

The new M5 should be frightening - but I think 507 HP monster is the '05 model.

However, I did mix it up all out with an M3 about a month ago and beat him by about three car lengths (it was about an 1/8 mile run) - he was really winding it up too - thought he was going to blow something up!

I couldn't tell you what kind it was, because I am "un-initiated". lol, the only reason I know for a fact it was a BMW was because I noted that before we left college. I had walked over to talk to one of the guys riding with him.

Yes, I was refering to the 05' model. Its an impressive machine. Especially that SMG tranny. I'd give 20k just for that.

Yeah, BMW's are tough ones for me. I really don't have a clue. I know the 318 is not much to worry about, but other then that, it could be 150hp, 300hp, or 500hp, and I wouldn't know. So, as usual, if I run someone, I take no chances.

I ran a 7xx a few weeks back. guessing it was just a couple years old. I was all wound up and just looking for an opportunity to get on it hard. This BMW and I were both making a left onto a highway and he steps on it some. So I do too. Then he REALLY steps on it when he still see's me behind him. We wind it up to around 80mph and I got into it pretty good. Stay right up on him all the way. it was night, and I'm sure that surprised him and he didn't really know what I was driving, but that he surely was not going to be leaving me behind. So he backed down.

I have heard about some of these monster bmw's and mercedes with like 700hp, but I haven't seen a BMW willing to really go at it yet. I think it is more of a status thing.

the price tag is what gets most yuppies they could care less how fast it goes , for the exotic car enthusiast the actual Specs are what draw attention.

Fortunately BMWs I know because I was going to buy one until I saw what they wre coming out with in the '05 Mustang - BMW is not even on my map now.

But some of the Mercedes, even though they have monster HP, they are so heavy and are not geared for it. They are great for cruising at 90 without breaking a sweat, but give them room to get there. Now the exceptions are the upper end SLs and SLKs (at over 400K I am not too worried about running into a lot of those). My boss had an SL600 with the AMG package, nice V12 in that beauty, but unfortunately he has moved out of state before I got the Mustang - he's the kind that would have gladly met me on the street and have a good time of it. Maybe when he visits in Jan, he know's I have the GT now so if we end up having some fun I'll be sure to report on it.

It's funny to hear people act like a BMW or Benz is a joke and people (yuppies) only like them cause they cost so much(read: way too much). Some people like trucks, some like hot rods, some like luxury, that's why there are so many models out there. Mustang is not the only FINE auto on the road. Yeah the low end models might as well be called what they are --econo models, but a 745i, is a MACHINE and a pleasure to drive or ride in, same with the S class, these cars are not made to race, they are made to navigate in comfort, but they also have massive power on tap. Like everyone said, it depends on the model, and while I haven't seen a head up race, just from riding and driving... a 525 is gonna take a V6 Stang & 7 will take a stock pre-05 GT (I can't say with the 05's), and M's try it if your got mods, other wise, save the gas. I'll always have a Stang in the garage, but if I was choosing which car I'd rather cruise 600 highway miles in, at a STEADY 140MPH --BMW gets my butt cheeks every time LOL

Dollar (resale) values notwithstanding, I'll choose the 'Stang every time. I'm
pretty sure it is easier (not to mention cheaper) to get every accessory
working on a twenty year old Mustang than it is on a twenty year old bimmer,
especially with all the bells and whistles those cars come with now.

Like everyone else was saying, it all depends on what type of bmw it was. Some would be able to run w/ the mustang, some whould just tear the mustang up (as much as i hate to say it...lol)
