My brother owned one of those Talons, he turned up the boost and would easily run stock mustangs, especially from a stand still with it's 4 wheel drive and all. Without the boost turned up I'm really not too sure who would have who, the driver has a lot to do with that, but I'd probably still favor the Talon solely due to its off the line capabilities. Only one way to find out!! I say buy it and with very few mods you'd own him!

Ya, to this day i have not come across a Talon that i could not beat. BUT race him from a light or from a stand still. Don't race him at a roll cause he will havethe advantage. for example, the last talon i came across (long time ago) had a very loud blow off valve and we were going like 45, when we punched it he was ahead of me. BUT then when we hit the next light and off the line i beat him by like two car lenths. it was funny, at the next light the two guys in the talon switched places real fast so that other guy could race me, i beat him too. Not to gloat, i know for a fact there are some out there that can beat me, i just haven't come across one. Tell me, is there anything done to the talon?

Well, I used to have an Eclipse GST. Which is the exact same thing as a talon. And stock they only have 195 horsepower and 205 torque. Mustangs come with at least 240 hp stock and around 300 ftlbs stock. So I dont see it happening.

My friend had a Eclipse GSX 98 (turbo Talon) and I don't think it could really run a GT... it did lieka 7-8 second 0-60 and prolly a late 14s early 15 1/4 mile.

If the boost is up, he defiently has good launch quality and it could give him the edge. but those AWD assemblies are heavy. :\

Use to race one a few years back at the local track. He had his boost up modestly and was running consistent mid 13's. He always had me off the line by two car lengths (my 60' times were a horrible 1.9s) or so but I managed to reel him in by half track. He said he was running 14psi boost at the time and wouldn't go much further than 17psi himself. He also had a larger aftermarket intercooler. Pretty quick but nothing special. I'm not sure what year the car was, but I races that track in 1998.

We run consitant low 11's in a talon on street tires. It's certainly gotten alot more than a turbo crammed into it. Anything can be fast if enough $$ is tossed at it.

Well, I can tell you from personal experience that I used to run low 13's-high 12's all day long. Which wasn't too shabby for a street car. I had a 91 talon tsi AWD. (well I still do, kinda) I used to hand it to mustangs and camero's all the time. But I've also had my butt completely destroyed by a few mustangs. Don't underestimate the DSM's. They can be pretty nasty if in the hands of someone that knows what their doing. Your future son-in-law thinks the way he does because his only experience with mustangs is probabley running stock ones or V-6 with exhausts. Let him cross paths with a sleeper mustang thats got alittle more nasty and see what he thinks. As for a mustang beating his talon, depends soley on the car and more than that, the driver.

"anything is fast if you throw enough money at it" is tottaly true the whole "I can beat mustangs easy they're so !@#$% slow!" is like the ricer slogan! there is a HUGE rice rocket crowd here some of them know what they are doing but not many most just bolt a fart can onto their moms grocery getter and think their Vin Diesel! sadly however the same holds true of us there are several mustang owners who completely dick up their cars by doing things wrong or by going the old tried and true way of the fart can I dont know how many stock v6ers ive seen pull up with 3" exhaust of course they will be slow he has no exhaust velocity! to answer your question Ive stomped many a talon/eclipse Ive also seen what they can do when tuned well and driven properly they launch hard and handle pretty well I wish all the different groups of car guys could just get along! after all were all into the same thing basicaly

Yyah, I know several Ford, Dodge, and Chevy Big-Block musclecars that I'd beat with my '68 302.

Poor planning and part selection goes across every slice of cardom, man.

:thumbsup

Cool Talon vs Mustang

Hey All,
While reading this thread I was reminded of the old adage, "there's no replacement for displacement". I think a lot of it comes down to the individual driver and cars, but I have a hard time believing a truly stock Talon with it's four banger could take a stcok V-8 Mustang. Of course, as another writer pointed out, if you throw enough $$$ at a car, any car, you can make it fast. My car 'fantasy' would be to drop a Lotus Esprite turbo 4 cylinder (the fastest production 4 cylinder in the world) and tranny into something like an Escort and blow the doors off of every Ricer I come across, LOL!!!
Happy Motoring,
MrMustang
