Does anyone have any idea on what sort of 1/4 mile times I can expect from my 1972 Coupe? It's just got the factory 302, 2 barrel carb, 2.79 gears in the back and a 3 speed, all with 221,000 original miles on it. I'm just wondering about what I can expect, thanks in advance for any responses.

I pulled 12.7 in the 1/4 with my 71, but mine has the boss 351.

1972 Ford Mustang
Comments: Following industry lead, all power ratings for 1972 and later were listed in net ratings which included all accessories. This lead to some drastic drops in power listings which, coupled with the drop of all big block options, sealed the end of Ford Mustang performance. The Boss 351 was dropped leaving only the Mach 1 with any claim to performance. The top engine option was just a 275bhp 351 Cleveland.
Production:
Mach 1: 27,675
Convertible: 6,401
Engines:
250 I6 99 bhp.
302 V8 141 bhp.
351 V8 177 bhp.
351 V8 266 bhp.
351 V8 275 bhp.
Performance:
N/A
I'd guess around 9 secs to 60 . . . Those cars were pigs with a lot of emissions and mileage changes.

For a stock 302 in a big ol stang like that, im guessin it would probably do 16-18's in the 1/4. Especally w/ the highway gears. But theres only one way to find out
damn daewoo better not beat me. that's alright i'll just ignore everyone else then until i take all the emissions junk off and stick a new cam/intake/carb in there. i think it's only got like 8:1 compression right now...
hopefully if i get it up to about 9:1 compression and a good 4 barrel, without the emissions junk it should run a little quicker.

I ran 10.2:1 compression, and didn't have any problems . . .
Edelbrock dualplane manifold with a 650 cfm Holley, and a 272 Comp Cam . . .Combo ran great!

I don't want to pay for premium gas so 9:1 is as high as I want to go right now, since it is my daily driver. I know that I could make it run a 12 or 13 second 1/4 without too much work, but it'd cost a lot ( me having no job ) and I'd have to use at least 92 octane gas. The 2.79 gears are fine for now, I'll probably change the rear end out at some point but again, it's the daily driver and I want the best mileage possible, it's not slow it's just not real fast either.
