Default 5.0 5spd vs 4.6 Auto

I was driving down a main 2 lane road in Town and was at a light with a Red SN95 body style 4.6L GT Auto (saw the shifter colume), he reved his engine and i turned to see that he wanted to race...the light turned green and i launched bout 1800rpm shifting at bout 5000 by the time i hit 3rd his nose was at the rear of my door and when i hit 4th i'm guessing i was almost completely ahead of him. Now i don't know if it's the car or the driver. But my car is Completely Stock. And i am happy with my 5.0 nomatter what everyone else says about 4.6 being faster cuz i proved to myself that it's not....atleast in somecases....Hopefully
LOL

It sounds like the odds were not even, him with an auto and you with a stick. It does make a big difference, especially if the 4.6L was stock, they are dogs stock.

The thing is that i don't know if the 4.6 was stock... i just know that my 5.0 is stock and yea i think the manual thing is a little bit of an advantage but all in all the 4.6 GT in the SN bodystyle is rated at 215-225? and the 5.0 is rated at 200 stock and these are flywheel numbers but i heard some where that the 5.0 puts out between 180-190 at the wheel. No clue bout the 4.6.

The 87-93 GT was rated at 225 at the flywheel. later on in the years they changed the method in which HP is measured, so the later ones (maybe 92-95) were rated at 215. Also the 4.6L in 96-97 was rated at 215 (the same as the later 5.0s). I'm not sure why in 98 they go the 225 rating (what is different?). A stock 96-98 manual will put down 180-190 rwhp, again the same as the 5.0s. They difference is the power curve between the two. The 5.0 has more low end and the 4.6 will make its peak power at a higher rpm. BTW... good kill!! :thumbup
