I know everyone out there has their favourite type of car, and brand loyalty is important. Heck, if I wanted an econo-box, I would have bought another Honda. I've had a series of second, third, 4th hand cars over the last 17 years and finally decided to get the car I've wanted since I was 16. So anyway a buddy of mine who's Acura all the way invites me out so he can see the Mustang and take it for a drive. Back when we were teens, he owned a '74 Mustang Ghia that, unfortunately, wasn't in the best shape.
Buddy is the know it all type, always has to have the "best" stuff or at least the impression that he has the best stuff and is uber-insecure. Buddy now drives a 2003 Acura TL 3.6L V6, just for reference, and hasn't stopped crowing about it since he got it last year. Cutting down my previous car, "When are you going to get something decent, etc, etc." I'm the type that drives cars into the ground, I like to get my money's worth and previous to the Mustang, every car I've owned has been paid for in cash. This guy had a perfectly good 1996 Acura Integra, in excellent shape and got rid of it only because it was getting up in mileage. He buys the TL, and has the transmission replaced within 3 weeks because it shredded on him.
So Sunday night I'm out there and he's driving The Redeemer around town and isn't really being complimentary towards her. "It's nice, performs similar to my TL, etc etc." I get an condescending email yesterday morning where he says the car is very "cute", but his TL still outperforms it. Talk about handing down a Declaration of War. The internet is a great resource and I found some interesting published specs. (I welcome any corrections if these are not right, and I apologize for Metric measurements.)
2003 Acura TL
DOHC V6 3.6L Engine. 225 HP, 216 ft/lbs Torque..
1585 KG Curb Weight
0-100 KPH Accelleration (As tested by Motor Trend) 7.4 Seconds
2006 Mustang V6 Pony
SOHC V6 4.0L Engine. 210 HP, 240 ft/lbs Torque.
1659 KG Curb Weight
0-100 KPH Accelleration (As tested by Motor Trend) 5.1 Seconds.
I then replied with a mock challenge to race for pinks if he thought our cars had similar performance. Considering mine has 15 less horses, and weighs 74 more Kilos, I point that out and then get another email accusing me of being a jackass. I don't know about you guys, but I'm not the one who threw down the gauntlet here, and I simply responded with published specs. So I decided to get cheeky. I told my buddy that a better comparison against his TL would be a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 as it also boasts a 0-100 KPH time of 7.4 seconds.
Boy was he mad when I called his ride an Acura Escort...
End result was pretty funny though, he declined to race and hasn't said a word about the Mustang since. Money talks and bull$hit walks.
**EDIT** I just got this reply from him on email! Your statement that my car is similar to an escort is ludicrous. And if I wanted a Mustang I would buy one but I don't, Covetousness has nothing to do with it. I don't know guys, this sounds a lot like "I can do that, but I don't wanna."
**EDIT**

I think the numbers from Motor Trend are off. there is no way a 2006 V6 Mustang does 0-100 kmh (0-60 mph) in 5.1 seconds. that is about what the GT's do in 0-100 acceleration.
Your V6 is probably closer to the Acuras acceleration. run em and let us know the outcome!

Do what I did at work...park my car next to the car in question, offer to drive other people in the section around for lunch or whatever so when they get back all they say is favorable stuff...
Or you can do what I do in my Mach now and just rev at them and be a total jack ass to tick them off even more...hahahaha...man I love doing that to people that don't like my car...I converted one hater into an admirer when I gave him a ride to the cleaners to pick up some clothes, and I just totally hauled ass perfectly the whole way...so when we got there, he was like...wow, how much was this again?
5.1 Sec?? with a V-6??Try these numbers from Car And Driver, still impressive for a v-6 and might even beat the Acura.
Zero to 60 mph: 6.9 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 19.0 sec
Street start, 5-60 mph: 7.2 sec
Standing 1/4-mile: 15.3 sec @ 91 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 113 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 189 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.79 g
EPA fuel economy, city driving: 19 mpg
C/D-observed fuel economy: 21 mpg
I think it is funny you called his car an Escort
it's in metrics, so it's all greek to me . .. but the mustang v6 is a LOT faster than an escort,

I'll have to find the source for those numbers and post them. I wasn't 100% sure myself which is why I welcome the corrections. I haven't had a chance to actually clock my car yet.
I have challenged him to a 1/4 drag, but he won't do it. Absolutely refuses. Like I said, bull$hit walks.
**EDIT**
Yup, my bad. The 5.1 sec is for the GT (I don't know how I messed that one up!). The V6 spec varies from 6.5 to 6.9 depending on the online source.

LOL! Well I did say "a mock challenge to race for pinks". He's far too conservative to drive more than 50 KmH in the city and 120 KmH on the highway. I feel a bit bastardly about it cuz I'm calling a challenge against a family car.
Besides which, the tranny on his TL has shredded once, I doubt he'd do anything to risk tickling it the wrong way.

i'm guessing my scarcasm meter isn't working tonight because i'm rubbing my eyes at this post. i thought for sure by now someone would have out-right flamed at the originally posted 05V6 5.1 0-60
05GT is the 5.1 0-60 and would absolutely butt-rape a V6.
I had a Pontiac Grand Prix back in the day, it had a digital dash with a button to switch to metric. I would jokingly call it my "turbo" button, look at that speedo go WOOT!

All the dude's gotta do, is just punch it, and hold the throttle to the floor for ten or twenty seconds! Most cars will put up with that at least once. I dunno, the acura's torque deficit is greater than the Mustang's horsepower deficit. I'm gonna put my fifty cents on the 'Stang.

Send your buddy down here to Seattle. We'll see how long he thinks Mustangs are cute after I walk him. TL's are nice cars, but not a overly fast car. I spanked one tho other night on I-5. They're not geared for being fast. It's a get around town car. Get an intake, exhaust, and a tuner, and you'll be good to go with your car.
