Default Civic Hatch Vs GT Vert

Yesterdays tale of how I got "whoooped" by a Honda.

Im cruising up the old backlick road in Springfield (Its now "the parkway") Im in the right hand lane and behind me is a prelude, and behind him a civic hatch with a fart can (I can hear its idle.) Traffic is relatively heavy.

As I start to get over into the 95 ramp, the prelude decides he is going to pass me on the right and stop me from getting over. I see his slickness coming (thanks to the noise of his high RPM no-go engine) and so I burp the throttle and gain about a car length so I can safely change lanes into the ramp leading to 95.

Maybe it POed the little Civic because I didnt let his brother prelude go. As I am getting on 95, I go a little less than half throttle to merge with the traffic. As soon as I merge, I settle down with the flow in the Grandpa lane (where I almost always drive), and all the sudden I hear the Civic fartcan increase volume until it was about to explode. The thing must have been cutting grass somewhere around 8 thousand RPM as he was passing the prelude coming up behind me . My wife was laughing, because I wasnt even on the gas and it was obvious he was trying very hard to keep up.

Talk about being a "screamer"... That Honda - I kid you not - was twice as loud as my OR/H with 40 series flows! So when he catches up he is probably doing like 75-80 (flow of traffic/me about 70) and he pulls around me just a few feet from my bumper. (I was almost wondering if I was going to have to bang the gas to keep him from rear ending me.)

He stays WOT the whole time and proceeds to ricer-fly-by me. His passenger starts laughing the "You got got!" laugh.

As he passes, and I cant get over this, the thing was so loud I winced! The guy starts the bob/weave routine, in and out of traffic until he was out of sight. Guess he was flapping his wings?

Considering I am against street racing, not to mention I had the wife and the kids in the car, I just held where I was and let him go. I have absolutely no doubt I could have spanked him, fart noise and all. On the other hand, I have nothing to prove, and there isnt much point in beating something you KNOW you can beat. (And as a side note - thats probably why these guys mess with us, and its probably why we mess with the vett and other higher end cars...)

So yes, I got "killed" by a Honda.

Im almost willing to bet that somewhere on some RB forum is a post about how "dude, like I killed this GT convertible by a mile with my Honda! He got got, yo!"

I say let him have his day - it will help him build up confidence, hard as that might be driving a Honda, especially if you have read my plates.

Just kids thinking it's a victory because they passed another car. In a ricer, that's a big deal! No loss, just being smart.

Hey Blade, do you live in Springfield? I actually work over by Springfield Mall, but I live in HOODbridge. I'll be on the lookout for the ole fart can!

You crack me up, its like a lawnmower cutting grass at 8K...haha...

I use to have a buddy with a similar car, but he had a quiet exhaust and was a sleeper. He has a GSR integra engine in his civic that was all gutted out (was probably 400 lbs lighter) and 125 shot of nos... that sucker was fast! The great part it didnt have a fart can and it didnt have stickers..just lightweight 15 inch wheels with Khumo Victoracers. This guy use to hang with my Vette...well, not top end..but he hung in the begginging pretty good.

There are definitely some Hondas that are *fast*. I know a guy with a turbo honda, and I know he would pull on me.

Honestly, I can respect almost any car and that its owner might want to make the best possible of it. I even see some (its OK, laugh) "Fast and Furious" riced cars that make me think "Wow, this guy put a lot of work into making his ride".

But this thing seemed to mostly feature a risk taking driver and a *super* loud exhaust. I dont think either is making the best of anything...

No doubt there are some quick ones out there. I raced a turbo Honda on the 1/8th, first race I beat him to the line but red lighted. The second race I took him off the line and my heart sank when he came barreling past me, 8.4 to 8.7 if I remember correctly. He trapped at 96 mph . That was all before the blower, so I hope to run into him again for a little payback.

Well if he ever does, he will ... its simply power to weight. Those cars with a 180 HP GSR motor and lightened are pretty good sleepers. Even thought they have no torque for launching, the can get up and go. Those motors can handle a big shot of NOS with no problems.

BY just "doing your thing" you accomplished several important things. Your children, without you doing a thing, learned patience and speeding up to prove a point proves nothing. BUT THE BEST ONE is without you doing anything and the Honda driver knowing you could blow his doors off cannot tell a "winning" story to anyone that knows cars, because they will know is is lying. Loud cars, fart can mufflers and Viagara make strange companions.

According to my friend, they are about 2000lbs when lightened and thats without the driver..it depends on the what the car has in if of course. But if its putting 250rwh, thats almost 300 to the crank. Thats a fast honda!

Making a Civic faster is a classic example of putting money into a turd. You put enough into it, you still have a pretty fast turd. And a gutted interior looks just awful, too. Imagine the exhaust drone in that!

It's a great, reliable economy car but it's laughable when the riced out or gutted cars run high 14s....

I dont know if you read my post about my friends civic? he actually still lives in the bay and still drives it to work. Its a 13 second civic..its not turbo, but he;s on the bottle. Plus he doesnt have a loud exhaust, he using the JDM stock civic SI exhuast. Now, if you were killed by a civic like that....it would surpise you right? i know i was really surprised when he use to hang with my C5..and my C5 was a 12 second car. I'm not tring to say these civic are the greatest cars, but they can be fast
