yes, weight has a big factor, cause the GT 500 weighs 2 tons. But i refuse to believe that the mustang driver was going all out. I mean, its a freeking Shelby Cobra GT 500, it can't lose to a neon

It could lose. I've seen some of those Srt-4s put out anywhere from 375-500 Hp with that much boost on the turbo or juice. Granted the engines won't last long but when they rival the GT500's power - 1000 pounds, it's gunna get whooped...am I right?
I mean look at how fast the Lotus Elise is at 190 hp. The thing is light as heck! Weight is half the battle.

I know what you mean. That's the thing, it doesn't really matter what kind of car you have, just what you have under the hood. Just the reason some Civics can take out our Mustangs like nothing. You get what you pay for.

Exactly! Too bad they spend thousands on a turbo and about the same on getting the actual car.

Maybe my hearing failed me but I could only hear the blower whine on the 03/04 cobra and not the Shelby. Either way that Srt-4 is quick. No matter what kind car you drive you can not always out run the wallet. Deeper pockets normally come out on top.
cripes...if neons start going that fast there really will be no diff between neons and the new gtos....imagine what that gt500 guy was thinkin...no doubt about that bein a race...neon guy musta read the controversy over that is300 video.....4 runs and 3 honk starts on each...if that gt500 wasnt tryin hes got noooooo self respect....interestin race with the newedge cobra though...i'd call it a win for the 04 cobra....he visibly slowed before the neon passed him....probably cause of the traffic comin
That is a sad demonstration on how not to drive buy the guy in the GT500. He spun the tires bad AND I never did hear the supercharger. I bet he was shifting at 4 grand. Put someone in the GT 500 who knows how to drive and that race would be just like the new edge cobra. He no doubt got out of it at the end. No way the neon catches up that quick otherwise. Granted the neon was fast but at 22 psi it will not be long before his engine goes *poof*.
Just last weekend I had my girlfriend take me back to the hospital to pick up her Saturn. I could not drive my car because of leg surgery. Her Saturn is an automatic. We both got caught at a light and I pulled up beside her in the slow lane, rolled down my window and said.. Let's race She said.."Ok" with a big smile on her face. The light turned green and I smoked her off the line. I even got in front of her down the road a bit. My point is she did not know how to drive the car. You can have all the hp in the world but if you do not know how to drive the car you can get taken out by a neon or any other 4 banger. Just my 2 cents worth

There is a local guy here the runs a 1992 Eagle Talon Turbo AWD. Its a total sleeper.. it has a 2.4 Liter JDM motor (just because its a 4 bannger doesnt mean it cant handle the boost... the 5.4 will blow up also on a lot of boost)that is built and has a large turbo and all the goodies. It pulls low 10's at 2200 ft. Its a 9 second car at sea level. it beats all kinds of cars. Remember guys back in the 60's, this is how Mopar came to be ontop...they took their baddest motor....the hemi or max wedge and put it in their lightest no frills car and Boom..they beat everyone. Its all about power to weight and traction and thats it.. simple and said. The GT500 is an awesome car, but its heavy and only packing 500 HP.. A modded neon at less than 3000lbs and packing the same would stomp on almost any street car.

We're talking about a $65k Shelby vs. a $22k Neon, which I'm sure doesn't have $43k in mods.
Some people on this site need to stop kidding themselve, mustangs are not unbeatable, even the almighty GT500. There are plenty of 4 bangers out there that will make us all look slow, and they probably have less invested. Sad but true !

I agree deeper pockets don't always win but it doesn't hurt to have a big bank account. Some good driving skills never hurt anyone either. I know mustangs are beatable just look at supras, vettes, camaros, anything that is built right.
