I hate this forum because it promotes street racing. Street racing is one of the worst things to our hobby, because every time some family of four dies due to an ilegal street race hurts us. Three years ago, I posted a post bashing street racing, and I feel it is time to bring that arguement back.so, here is my old arguement.
DO NOT CALL ME A STREET RACER!!!! Call me an enthusist, a car geek, a wrenchhead, motorhead, gearhead, road racer, anything, ANYTHING but a STREET RACER! Yes, I know the arguement, you drive a muscle car, and some idiot in a Honda rev's at you, and you have to show him who is boss. after all, what can go wrong?
Well, it can cost you a ticket, increased insurance costs, your car, your life, or worse, you can kill someone. The press is reporting more and more street racing deaths and they call them drag races. This ticks me off almost as much as the street racing does. Why you ask? Well, it makes the many people that participate in the legal sport of drag racing look as bad as these idiots that race swerving in and out of traffic.
With street racing, you have no saftey crew or ambulance like you do at an organized racing event such as drag racing and open track events. You have the constant chance of someone turning infront of you or stepping off the curb right in your way. At a race track, there are safety barriers to protect both you and the spectators.
To make matters worse, Hollywood has created 3 popular movies glamourizing this ilegal behavior. Even a LEGAL racing organization has a lisence plate frame that says "HELL YES I STREET RACE!" This not only makes them look bad, but it also makes ANYONE that is an enthusist look bad too! And don't tell me that the NMRA's plate means street legal race, because if it did, then it would say that.
soooooo....is the kill stories forum dead then? lol...my plate says streetracer...and every car show i go to has all the enthusists, car geeks, wrenchheads, motorheads, gearheads, and road racers all tellin me how cool it is...my plate ends up gettin as many admirers as some of the cars...
Nah, that forum is merely an outlet for entertainment/frustration/victory/elation... Track kills are allowed too afterall...
Honestly though, the reputation of the cars and owners themselves in general are much more harmful.
I couldn't take my '87 GT vert ANYWHERE without some ricer, F-body owner, other Mustang owner wanting to race... I couldn't even drive back and forth to work without it happening at least 2-3 times each way... on the BUSIEST most CROWDED street in town! Where did they think we were going to run??? None of these dumbasses knew me, they just saw a "5-oh" or "a Mustang". Same thing with cops, they would ALWAYS change lanes to get behind it, and pull me over for anything they could imagine (once for a straw wrapper blowing out of the console next to me... I CAUGHT IT in midair before it went anywhere, but was pulled over anyway and given a warning for "littering.")
One of the things I like MOST about my Ram is that I'm completely anonymous on the street. The 4.7 under the hood of that thing is even MORE powerful than what was under the hood of the GT I drove daily before it, but being a stock, undecorated pickup that doesn't advertise anything lets me drive right past F-bodys, Mustangs, and Imports without any problem, just the rare fellow pickup owner who wants to rumble, but I always tell them when and where they can meet me to lose to my Chevy (which handily beat my former GT just a few nights ago... heh heh), I don't race the Dodge. Even better is the fact that cops ignore it, even at 12mph over the speed limit (no joke! I got caught a few days ago by a motorcycle cop sitting on his bike, radar gun pointed right at my lane, I'm gaining on the car in front of me like nobody's business, doing 42 in a 30, and he didn't even bat an eyelash, just kept watching traffic with the gun! What was he watching? A Mustang that was behind me a few cars back.)

I understand your pain and agony Twister, but you can't try to stop it. I have added 2 stories to the kill forum, but it was on the highway by myself with no traffic around. Heck, there is never traffic up here by the Canadian border. I cannot speak for others, but I really don't like street racing as you are putting it. In a residential neighborhood where people can get hurt is not my idea of racing. We have open roads here, and there are stretches that you could look both ways for a mile or 2, that is where the races should be. You want to race? Then do it there where you can only hurt yourself...... Yes, the movies have glamourized the concept of street racing, and it doesn't appeal to me, but it appeals to those who have no concept of the reality of crashing into a minivan and killing a young child, as does that guy in NY that ran into the limo because he "had a couple and got lost." Then again, some just don't care who they hurt.......
I'm amazed that this one got brought back up. I agree with Twister completely on all issues. It's done nothing but make all sports car owners look really bad and feel like we must apologize to the world whenever someone mentions street racing.

bold move twister to bring this up in this forum. i am surprised that you have not been banned for stating your opinion.
I AGREE WITH YOU 100%. street racing is giving all car clubs a bad name. The car club i belong does not condone street racing.
74stang2togo ignore them, just give them a smile and a wave and let them go...and nghtrnnr we know all about your stand on this subject, just please do not take anyone else with you. just saying $hit happens. not a slam on you.

I think that you've put your finger on the real tragedy there, twister.
