My Caddy is having some work done to it so I was driving my dad's 2000 GT automatic to a car club meeting today (the Chevy guys weren't too pleased when I showed up in a Ford). On the way there I saw a black fox body up ahead of me. I was crossing my fingers hoping it was a V8. I pulled up next to it and saw the 5.0 badge on the side and gunned it. It was the older, 79-86 body style and it was a notchback. I noticed the thing's exhaust exited before the rear wheels. After I punched it briefly, I let off to see if he was interested. Before I knew it, he was passing me and switching lanes in front of me. I followed him. The traffic was pretty heavy but we got a couple straightaways. We were weaving in and out of cars doing over 100. I never got within two car lengths of him. On the two straightaways we got, he flat out LEFT ME. He musta had alot of cash under the hood of that car. Eventually he got so far ahead I couldn't even see him (I let off a bit once it was clear I had no chance).
Fox bodies were my first love before I discovered that they made Caddy's with LT1's in them. I still have a soft spot for V8 Mustangs, though. Props to you 5.0 guys. I know the older 302s are slower than the 87-93's, and he still made me look silly.
Big fun even though I lost.
Later,
Matt

I agree with Tominator.
If I race, its from 0 to 70 or so. Not 70 to 140, although I would if there were a couple of cars, and it was safe to pass.

i agree those types of contests can be fun but they dont really show who has the faster car unless theres a looooong straightaway....glad you had fun but get ready to be killed by the pc crew for racing in traffic
Well, the reason he was ahead when we were in heavy traffic was because he was making some crazy maneuvers that I was not willing to make. When we did get some straightaways, I had the pedal to the floor and I was still losing ground on him. I actually think my Caddy pulls harder on the highway than the 4.6.

I think the LT1 in the Caddy B bodies are not the same ones they stuck in the Camaros and Vettes.. I think they are the same as the ones on the Impala and Caprices.. Iron Heads and 265 HP.. i could be wrong.. but those are pretty cool cars... i know of a B-body club here in Vegas... cool guys. The 2000 Gt has 260 HP and is lighter so it should be quicker than the 94 Caddy.

I just said that the Caddy could take the Stang on the highway. 0-60 the Mustang would kill it, but from like 60-120 the Caddy feels alot faster. It's probably around 300bhp and close to 400btq... I ran a 15.1 in the quarter with stock 235s in the rear. I have rockers and springs sitting in my garage waiting to install, and I'm getting 3:73s and a posi soon. I should be hitting at least a 14.7.
The LT1 in the Fleet/Imp SS/Caprice/Roadmaster is the same as in the Vette and Camaro... just detuned. It has different heads and cam and a couple other things. Still the same engine, though. The Caddy is actually a D-body, not a B-body. Same frame/chassis but 6 inches of extra wheelbase.

15.1 in the quarter?!?! How much does that baby weigh? Must be 4500 lbs or so? Your father's GT will walk you, me thinks. He will launch away from you from the line and then simply continue pulling off into the distance. It'll get worse as aerodynamics come into play, I would have to guess.
To be sure though, get the hp ratings and weights for both cars and divide hp/weight. Bigger number wins the quarter mile. Aerodynamics will win top speed.

Heads are not aluminum and i think it only has a 2 bolt main....plus intake is differnt..more restrictive engine. Around 260 HP and dynos around 210-220 HP stock to the rear. I know some Impala SS's and they are low to mid 15 second cars at 2200 ft.
