Your 'tad bit of experience' mirrors my own. Twelve years driving a 'big rig' from coast to coast and Canada. I've got 1.25 million miles in without a DOT preventable accident.
Like you, I've seen nearly every kind of wreck. NEVER think it cannot happen to you! That, in my opinion, is the secret of driving safely!
I street raced 30 years ago. Less traffic and few people were out after dark in those long ago days. There are several of my friends that I'll never see again that did not survive those years.
I learned the hard way to take it to the track. Boxes of trophies are in my garage thanks to a 1969 Road Runner 383 and a 1968 Cougar with a 428.
I had more fun every Wednesday nigh, Grudge Night, bracket racing than I ever did on the street!
Later, I raced motorcycles and had a 9 second Kaw 3cyl.....a long time ago to be sure.
You young guys have got it so good compared to back when. Parts are CHEAP! Cars are CHEAP! Most of the experimentation to see what works has already been done. Cars are safer and handle like the true race cars of old. This combines to give you over confidence and that leads to disaster.
Enjoy your car, but PLEASE take it to the track to wring it out!
