Default Hey dudes!, need some gear shift lessons...

Hey I've got a 1999/2000 Mustang 35th ann (you could check out my pics at my profile). Two weeks ago I got a new Ford Racing clutch system. I want to know hows the proper way to shift my car in order to maximize performance...RPM's, Techniques...
Anything helps.

AJ.

im all for the safty of other people, i dont even speed much over the limit. but there is a completly lit up (almost)1/4 mile strip of newly paved(no pot holes) street 5 minutes from my house(or anyone elses home). its empty after 6 o'clock when the workers leave since its the begining of a new devolpment

ive never even raced another car there i just go a couple runs down it every now and then to practice my launches for when i do want to go to the track which is an hour an a half away.i dont really care if someone on here thinks i shouldnt be doing it but, would that even be considered street racing?

First street racing should never be done . I lost my nephew 28 years of age that ran a 6 flat in eighth in a pinto with a 200 shot of nitro , 8 years ago and still miss him baddly , never got hurt at track . But anyway if you are talking about 10s in a quarter alot of money unless a low compression motor to handle the juice . But anyway I have a 351 that is built kinda cheep and should run well . I started with a mex block I got at swap meet . Will handle a good 600 horses , high nickle block with hipo caps . Bore to say a 347 cubic with 30 over pistions . Run 351 clev heads . Those blocks came in around early 70s trucks , kinda easy to find .

Good block forged rotating assembly. Real good set of heads ( I run trick flow 205cc.) and camshaft that is compatable. 11:1 compression 4:10 to 4:30 gears. Beefed up 8.8 or 9 inch. 3,000 lb. And good suspension.

In a industrial park in the middle of the night I see no problem with lining up some cars and let em rip. I have been doing this in Detroit for 15 years now and I have never seen a accident, gotten a ticket, etc. I have seen a few guys on bikes do back flips riding wheelies though.

The biggest problem with street racing is where it’s taking place, where the crowd is standing and the biggest problem is that 90% of the drivers out there can’t drive their car for doo doo. With cars going into the 11s and 12s with bolt ons it’s far too easy for someone with no skills to get behind the wheel of one and do some serious damage. Every video I have ever seen with street racing in it involves A driver who can’t drive for S#!t.

I am well aware that most posts on this board are anti street racing and I will probably get jumped in a dark alley now, but I will probably continue to street race for years and years. It only takes me a half hour to get downtown Detroit though. And Detroit street racers have it nailed down. The spots are perfect, you never see a civilian car and they are so secluded that the cops don’t bother you. There are a lot of empty factories down there. I will admit that I won’t go down there without my Glock though (yes I have a permit). Scary crowd.

You are worth the professional drag race setting you need. I would hate to see you put in all that work only to hit a pothole. Keeping in mind upon hitting anything at high speed, the front end will always go to the rear because of the weight of the engine. Be careful, give yourself the best!

I know that this is an old forum but it is very intresting to see the comments that were posted. I feel that I have to put my 2 cents into it!

As I know that I love to race from light to light, or flying down the highway after it is said and done with, is when I tell myself how dumb I just acted. Yes I had fun but not really thinking smart.

I'm all for street racing in a controlled invironment. I had a Mustang the was built pretty good and it got me into nothing but trouble. From me getting tickets all the time until getting a suspended liscence. Driving just like a complete A Hole, indangering others around me. When you are young with these type of things you really don't take serious.

Now, I have built my second Mustang which you can see from my profile.

I built this car strickly for the track to keep myself from getting into trouble on the streets. Do I drive it on the streets anyway? Hell, yes!! It is not street leagal at all. I creep around driving no more than 30 mph to my local car show about a mile away. I love the feeling driving it and the complements I get as people are seeing me pull up.

I also love the feeling knowing what my car actually runs at the track because that's where I can drive like that A Hole again and not worry about a thing!

For your safety and the safety of others (not a preacher!) Take it to the track. It doesn't matter what you bring, just go there and beat the crap out of it!! Don't blow the motor but come close to it!

Default Just my opinion

If you have ever ran a 11 second car on the street you know it is a hand full.....10 second rides are looking for traction like a bum scouting for a butt. A 9 second rig on the street is something to laugh at to me. I would love to see a car that could get anywhere close to a 9 on the street. A concrete pad with vht, a set of slicks and it is attainable. On the street you are just looking for a wasted car and a hospital bill or worse. I have tried a barracuda that was turning 1020's on the street.....it went up in smoke from a rolling start with 14" slicks at 10 psi and a spool. I would not have wanted another car next to me. just my opinion....

Street racing is not a good idea. I was a young, dumb kid back in the 80's and I did the whole street racing, top speed thing with my '87 Mustang GT. Imagine the horror of rounding a bend at 155 mph to see a bunch of reflective triangles from a broken down semi. I know there is no way I could have stopped if that truck had been across the road (especially with those crappy Pinto drum brakes in the rear). I don't discount the fact that it is an adrenaline rush, but it just isn't worth it.

My best friend almost lost his car to the city of Virginia Beach because he was caught street racing. I guess you could say he was "lucky" to get it reduced to reckless driving and a $1000 fine. Add the $1000 he paid for the lawyer and it winds up being an expensive lesson.

I enjoyed my time at the track a LOT more than street racing. It is a huge rush to watch that tree come down and spooling up to launch. Not to mention the time slip waiting at the end to show you how you did. Be smart and keep it on the track.
