Default Street Race (Pt 2)

Okay,I've figured out a few things that
I'm going to do with my Mustang.

First off I'm going to buy a 351w crate motor.

Then I'm going to pull out the passenger & rear
seats and add an 8 point roll bar.

If I can find them,I'm going to get the following
in fiberglass:

Hood
Trunk
Doors
Front Fenders

My gear ratio will either be 3:91 or 4:10,I'm not
sure which yet.

Can someone give me some other ideas on how
I can make this 69 Stang of mine a 9 second
car?

Some links to places that sell fiberglass body parts
and such would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Well Nathan a 351 crate motor won't get you into the 9's but it's a good start. You will need a power adder such as a blower or nitrous or both. Going this route however you will have to drop the compression ratio so it will be compatable with a power adder. Oh yeah a turbo will also work. You are going to need a strong fuel and ignition system also to support such power. I figure you will need to make around 650 to 750 horsepower to go that fast. Also it won't come cheap!
Also the bottom end of the engine has to be able to withstand such power as well as your transmission and differential choice.
I would look in a NHRA or IHRA rule book to see exactly what you will need to show up at the track or else they won't let you run, and that would be a bummer.
Do you have any information on a car like yours going that fast, and what it will take? Frank..

Wow! I hate to sound like an old fart or something like that, but something has to be said.

Three month ago Jesse's uncle was out street racing hit a wet spot in the road at over 100mph lost control and dumped his 69 Camero on it's roof into a 6' deep drainage ditch. The only thing that saved his life was he had the since to hit the floor before it went over. He still hurts from it today!

Two weeks ago a kid in his SN95 with N20, at over 130mph, side swipped a T-bird that turned out in front of him. The T-Bird was sent spinning out of control into a farmers field. Three kids where in the Bird, one with a concusion and 8 stiches in his head. the other two will not get in any kind of car. As for the Mustang two where in it .The passenger hit his head on the side window breaking it, as his head slammed forward the broken window sliced his ear half off!! The car flew through the air, it did not land for 100ft, skipped and it wasn't another 50ft or so before it settled.

I could not let this post go without saying something. I just would not forgive myself if I found out that you where hurt!

Street racing is NOT! where it's at. Build your car, but please go to a track where it is controlled.

If there is anyone else that feels the way I do. please say something!

Tony B.

Default Street Racing-Big NO....NO

Drag racing on the street is for fools! I see in the news all the time of people getting hurt or KILLED doing it. And it is not always the ones racing the get hurt! Build your car how you want but like Tony said take it to the track!!!!!

If you live in the SoCal area there are plenty of tracks now that do Street legal drags, please check them out you will have a lot of fun doing this.

I have heard of a couple of SoCal mustang clubs that like to go to the tracks all the time. Just check out some of the clubs listed in the links section.

I know it's dangerous.

I totalled my dads 70 Challenger street racing.
I broke my arm in 2 places and hit my ear on
something real hard so now I'm deaf in that ear.
But it has one hell of an adrenaline rush
and the illegality of it all just adds to it.

I love it.

All the more reason to go to a track!

There is nothing like the rush of launching hard of the line with a pair of slicks. The rear squats, the front lefts and it pins you back into the seat. I launch my twin turbo LX at 6000 rpm. That was enough to bend my seat. And when your running down the track at speed, the side to side movement on slicks is enough to scare the hell out of most.

You will never get the feel of a hard launch on the street and that is a fact! If you get the slightest feel on the street, it will be 10 times more at the track.

I've gotten more of a rush at the track then I ever got from the street. Plus I get a time slip for the bragging rights

Just think about your parents. How do you think their going to feel if something happens. It would devastate me to lose Jesse to a street race!

Anyway enough said. Good luck.

Tony B.

Nathan, you asked what it would take to go 9's? I was assuming this would be at a TRACK!! How else would you know what your car would pull in the 1/4.. I do not agree in anyway shape or form street racing. Besides being illegal you or someone you know can get seriously injured or killed. How can you live with yourself if you plow into a small child lets say cause you were racing on the street!
I totally agree with Tony, there is a BIGGER rush at the track than on the street. TRY IT!!! Frank.

You guys are right I guess.

Where would I pick up a rule book for the NHRA
and IHRA stuff?

I don't think there's a track anywheres around here
though. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\">

Yep, I did a lot of street racing when I was younger, and once I went to the track, it was twice as fun and never really did the street thing again.

I know there is certain "outlaw" feel to street racing, but there are just too many people who go to those things that are idiots. And you have to trust those people not to hit your car or kill a spectator on your behalf.

The price is high. First, if you only get caught street racing, they inpound your car and sell it off, plus you lose your license. Worse, if there is any kind of accident, you will go to jail. If there are injuries, you will go away for a very long time. In San Diego where I live, they have put undercover agents at the street races to take down license plate numbers, then the police go knocking on doors the next morning to inpound cars and take people to jail.

Going to the track doesn't sound as cool, but let me tell you, it is a lot more fun!!!!! The street racing crowd could care less about you or whats really happening with your car. The people at the track will become real friends and help you with your car.

Cruising and clubs is a great way to show off your car when you aren't racing at the track. If you are into showing off your hard work.

Many street racers are afraid to go to the track, mostly because the BS stops and they can't get away with saying how fast their car is, they must put it to the clock in a fair and controlled environment.

I go to Carlsbad raceway here in San Diego, and it costs $20 to race all you want. A small price to pay for someones life.

Nathan,

I hope you don't think we are raggin on you. It's just I think this is a GREAT! bunch of people and no one wants to see you or anyone else hurt.

Here is the sites for NHRA and IHRA,
www.nhra.com/
www.ihra.com/

I,m sure you can find the nearest track through them.

Hey Glen,
I have family down S.D. way. When I get the twins running again, my brother wants me to come down. He thinks I'm going to let him run her down the track

Anyway let's hook up. Maybe Jesse and I can scoop-up Scott on the way down

Justn/tony

Let me know when you are coming down this way, it would be great to hook up. Maybe even head out to Carlsbad raceway. We need to get Scott to come also, speaking of grudge matches, we need to make a run down the track and settle a little disagreement on the "00' V6 5spd vs. his V8 auto vert"
