Default Tubular Control Arms???

Hey guys.

I was looking on your site for the cheap, tubular control arm kit and now I can only find the boxed style.

79-98 Control Arm Kit, Boxed, Rear, Upper & Lower, Red at LRS - Same Day Shipping!

They were just like those but tubular. Did you all stop selling them? Or what's the deal?

Yeah, well boxed control arms will work, but I was really wanting the tubular design...

Is there any pros or cons between them or is it just a preference thing?

I thought I learned long ago, in metal shop, that tubular steel was stronger than rectangular pipe.
That price isn't bad, but you get what you pay for. The fact that it says "hardware is included, but it is highly recommended to use factory hardware" is kinda scary too.
It's kinda like saying...we want to sell you this piece of crap, but we don't recommend that you use it.

Rabbit is right.
Tubular design is quite a bit stronger.
Sharp corners are stress points, plus a flat piece of metal will bend before tubular with the same metal.

But I'm not making a ton of power, so these cheaper ones should work just fine in stiffening up the rear a bit.

Sorry for the delay in response. The manufacturer had an issue with the metal bushing sleeves being oversized & that was causing a "clunk" when installed on the car. The manufacturer is correcting the issue & once we recieve the corrected pieces we'll list them back on the site.

On the hardware deal, the manufacturer includes grade 8.8 hardware in the kit which is acceptable for the usage. However, factory hardware is grade 10.9 & we just make the recommendation to reuse if you so desire.

I'm no metalurgist or engineer, so I can't say whether or not tubular is stronger than boxed, but the boxed is still an upgrade over stock!

Yep, even boxed is a good upgrade over the stock open ended units.
I would like to have the tubulars though. I might just wait...

I'm not sure on the time frame, but it shouldn't be more than a couple of weeks. I know the manufaturer has ordered the new bushing sleeves & is already set up to swap them out once they arrive. I'll post back here when we get them back in stock!

Tubular is stronger than boxed. It's all physics... the corners are stress points and are points for it to collapse into itself. Tubular is like an archway, in the fact when stress is placed on it, it actually gets stronger because it's supporting itself at the same time it's trying to push inward.

I think those science classes are actually coming into use now.

The more corners the stronger. Boxed has 4 where as tubular has 360

Hahhahhha. Yeah... But it's true. Never thought of it as 360 corners.
