My 1965 Fastback- Originally I bought it in Canton, Il back in 1982. It was for sale in a local trading post for $1300. I called the guy and offered $1100 from his parents house in Canton. Thanks to the poor telephone lines at the time he said " What? a thousand? I guess I could do that." So I came home with my C-code Rangoon red/ red interior, factory A/C ( not working), P/Drum brakes ( 3 out of four..not bad), console, A/T, 2 speed wipers/washers, P/S ( not working)beater. But it was all there and not molested.
The car now has an early Boss 302/ tunnelport ( .030 over) block with all stress risers are ground down. The original Boss steel crank (.010/.010 under) and rods with APR wavelock bolts. 1969 Boss 302 heads with stainless 2.25 intake and 1.71 exhaust valves with hardened/ no-lead seats. A custom grind Comp Cams roller cam with matching lifters and roller rockers. Stock Boss highrise intake manifold topped with a Holley 750 carb. Exhaust is by a bundle of snakes headers and 2 1/2 inch Flowmasters.
The automatic C-4 has been replaced with a wide ratio toploader and Hurst Competion Plus. The 8 inch rear is now 9 thanks to being at the right place and having friends. I got the 9 inch rear with ORIGINAL traction masters ( yeah, the ones with the cast ends and three bolt holes for the u-bolts), front disk brakes (complete), the proportioning valve and master cylinder from a 65 K-code coupe that had blew out its shock towers. All for 200 bucks. ..and yes I did look at the K car but it was pretty trashed.
For suspension I have Eibach progressive rates in the front with the Shelby drop and the standard leaves in back. Polyurethane bushings all around with 1 1/8 and 3/4 sway bars front and rear. New 16 x 8 rims and tires. Hoping to make the Hot Rod power tour in 2010. Gotta paint it again yet.
