Backfiring is in the timing most of the time, with only half the wires getting spark you should pull the distributor out and try setting it in again, it's easy to get the timing on #1 TDC on the compression stroke rather than the power stroke.

well this is my set up i got a 5.0 motor from a lincoln town car my friend had and i basically am only using the block, i tore it down and bought some cobra heads for it with some work done on them, also installed a comp cam in it (not sure of the specs), i got a 4bbl edelbrock intake and aslo a 4bbl edelbrock carburator, i used the stock distributor from the 5.0 and bought new wires, the problem with the car is that its backfireing and only about half the wires are getting power, i am using the wire harness from the lx im not sure if there supposed to be diffrent i am aslo using the stock fuel pump from the lx i was reading that i need to change that into a 10-15 pounds instead of 50 right? well i hope u can help me out, if u need more info let me knoluis
