This series offers driver training, lapping, race and lunch time touring sessions through the typical day. The race session is an interesting concept that, in it's most basic sence, is sort of "bracket" road course racing. Qualifying times set the staggered start times for the race. slowest cars leaving earlier. Though a complicated formula to set the start times, if every car ran thier qualifying times, all cars would be crossing the finish line at the same time.
The tracks are evaluated individually to allow more or less time to the start intervals based on the availablity of passing zones in establishing the start times. It really emphasizes the driver more than the car.
The first SATCAT event for 2008 was at Black Hawk Farms Raceway in Northern IL and the race session was about an hour long. Qualifying was a 30 minute session and multiple practice seesions were also available at about 30 minutes each.
See the link provided above for more information. The remaining 2008 schedule includes weekend events at Grattan Raceway, Gingerman (both in Michigan) and Road America in Wisconsin between now and early November.
Personaly, I had a blast in the race group at Black Hawk Farms and I'm signed up for one day at Grattan (which is when my track day funds run out this year).
