Word of Caution for Photobucket Users

Hi guys... I was on photobucket earlier and virus scans from the site kept bumping me off and trying to scan my computer.. to no avail (mac here and it was clearly PC code)... there's a bad computer virus spreading, just listen to the news - just wanted to let you know to be extra careful....

Virus threat

This probably has nothing to do with it - but just wanted to advise you, photobucket was acting mighty funky today.

I caught a horrible virus from Youtube from an infected video. You really have to be careful where you surf.

You really need to stay away from those Camaro videos.

Judi, we get those all the time at work, people always have to click on those because it looks legit.

Mine got so bad that it disabled the Windows update feature. I ended up having to reformat and reload the OS.

Ya this worm called "Conficker" or something is really really advanced. It's already taken out something like 10 milion computers...Read around, the tech people are giving it a thumbs up for being so smart and unpredictable / unbreakable. Pretty scary if you use a PC and don't have anti virus.

Bad thing is, this worm changes it's format so most anti virus programs have a hard time catching it.

I HATE those phony antivirus, antispyware popups. I blacklist any site where I encounter them. (I have a resident antispyware program that protects me from them, and then I just add them to its blacklist).

Life is too short for that stuff.

If I think I REALLY need to get into a site where I have encountered that gunk, I use my trusty old G4. Voila, no sweat.

Using the mini and macbook here... it's still relentless in popping up

it created the "loop" effect ... - although no problems, couldn't access photobucket earlier without the loops... so if someone with a PC did - big problems if you didn't "force quit" and hit cancel or ok...

Just beware and be careful.

When I hit those darn things on a PC, I just hit the 3 finger salute, or if its too slow, the power button.

I HATE those guys. They rank right up there with the very worst slime on the internet.

I got the Windows patch but we'll see. So it keeps popping up the "download our anti virus" thing?

Myspace has been doing that too. I shut the window so fast. I did a complete scan and no virus, I tested my security and I am good to go. That makes me mad that it takes control like that!

I've had bad luck with some of these new in the wild viri and installed Linux as a backup.

However after many overnight scans with Charter's program and used Trendmicro's free Housecall virus scanner several times I got rid of them.

Housecall gets many of them that the Charter program misses.
