Default Underside rust ??????

So hopefully this isn't being too whiny but......

I was changing springs this weekend and I was surprise how much rust is on the underside of the car, rear end, driveshaft, etc.

Is it Cor 10 steel so it's supposed to do that or should I break out the spray can and touch it up?

Hi Doug,
Rust eh. I hate that too. Got mine 08 straight form the deler to up on jack stands did the whole underneath shaft and all while still new. In your case is an 05 rust is three years now. I had this problem on other cars I owned. I tried painting good for a year then it cames back no matter what you use rust paint and so on. One is solution sand blast to bear steel then prime and paint.Thats will hold as long good thicness of paint. But thats too expensive to do, then go with some kind rust proofing wax oils clean as much rust you can then spary the oil. You have to do it every year if you are in a snow and salt area. This treatment should stop the rust at that stage.
Hope you fing this help full.
Sannar.

I would say due to the fact you live in Maryland there is probably alot under it. It takes very little salt off the road to ruin a car.

Mines an 07 GT500. I do drive it thru the winter but not in the snow. No doubt there's still salt laying around. Seems like it should be factory painted or they intend it to rust.

All are like that.I think they dip the axle in a vat of rust like Chevy used to do to their trucks in the 70's.

Those parts start rusting the minute they leave the factory. In fact, the surface rust protects the metal from further corrosion. Looks like hell but a wire brush and some Rustoleum will take care of it.

A few people have just sprayed the housing with rust converter. Seems to work pretty well too.
