New owner of a GT500, can't locate the owners manual
Hey, all,
I just purchased a new GT 500, The dealership can't locate the owners manual. But they are ordering me a new one. What I wanted to know is, outside of the owners manual when you got your GT 500, was there any certifications from Ford stating that this is a SHELBY, or what # Shelby production it is. Any kind of feedback would be appreciated. I'm just trying to figure out what my might be missing.
The Shelby GT500 is a specific model, so the window/Mulroney sticker identifies it as that (if your dealer gave you the window sticker).
GT500s do not have a separate serial number sequence from other factory Mustangs, so you cannot tell its rank in GT500 production from the serial number. At the end of the model year, SVT (Ford's Special Vehicle Team) used to mail out a nice certificate to all SVT Cobra owners which defined that information. With SVT almost nonexistant now, Ford has seen this a money making opportunity and instead of mailing these certificates for free intends to offer them for sale for $60.00 to purchasers of the GT500. The letter for this "offer" won't be mailed out until 2008 GT500 production is complete and the final numbers are available.
The GT500 is entirely made by Ford. Some other Mustangs that are made by Ford but then shipped to Shelby American for modification get a dash plate added at Shelby that serializes the number of such modification. You can buy such a dash plate with Carroll Shelby's signature for your GT500 from Shelby American for $300 by sending them your GT500's serial number (and the money, of course). The dash plate fits between the center two circular vents in the middle of the dashboard. Shelby likes making money by selling his signature.

The manua
l was leather with the gt500 logo stamped into it. It is the stock mustang one though. There is an additional little book with the gt500 specific stuff in it.
