Question signed Carroll Shelby dash plaques

The Mustangs that are modified at Shelby American each get an engraved and signed dash plaque stuck on between the two center round AC vents. These Mustang models include the Shelby GT, Shelby GT-H, SuperSnake, etc.

The Shelby GT500 does not visit Shelby American for any modifications or additions and does not come with the dash plaque. However, Shelby sells the plaque for $324.95 as part of #KIT-SP-DPGT500 including a couple of sill plates. (Other websites list this same kit for $399.) You must provide the serial number of your GT500 in order to order the plaque, in order to prove that you are buying it for a true GT500 and for the VIN to be engraved on the dash plate.

It seems pretty expensive for a little trim piece (paying mainly for Carroll Shelby's actual signature, I guess). I wouldn't even mount it on my dash (I think the dash looks cleaner without it), but I am considering buying one just to have it. Shelby makes a lot of money selling his signature, but he isn't getting any younger and you never know how long he'll be around. Has anyone else bought or even considered buying the signed dash plate for their GT500?

Gary, if you have the $$, I think you should get it. The plaque will be a nice piece to have in the future.

I just placed my order last week for mine. Carroll Shelby does not keep all that money for himself. A big chunck of it goes to his charity. Your car will be more valuable with that little piece of metal.

Yeh..we have them on both our GT500's. It's all about the sig and he is not getting any younger. It took us about 3 months to get ours.

Thanks for the input. I ordered the plate this morning. They said allow 8 weeks. I decided it would be nice just to have it.

Default Shelby Plaque looks great on the dash!

It took about 8 weeks to get mine and I was thinking of keeping it in the safe but it looked so good on the dash I had to mount it. However I did coat it first with 6 layers of artist grade Krylon though. If you want to coat yours be sure and take a Sharpie pen and write something on a piece of AL and then try your brand of "Spray on Coating " on it first to make sure your spray will not make Mr. Shelby's Sharpie signature run away! I read somewhere that someone used some other kind of spray on theirs that ruined the Shelby signature!
