Default Questions about installing gauges

I am interested in installing a few gauges in my GT500 and am interested in how other have done it. I like the look of the dash pod with the three gauges. I am looking to do this more for the look since I don't plan on drastically modifying the car to really need them. I think it would be very neat for my passengers to be able to see them running. So my questions are:

My main concern is I would like to do this without any permanent modification (ie drilling into dash etc.) Is this possible?

I would like to have a boost gauge, but what others are worth adding?

How difficult is the job? I don't work on cars much, but I am somewhat mechanically inclined.

Also will the pod look funny since the dash is leather on the gt500?

I figure the install should be fairly similar to a GT install correct?

Thanks
Mike

Boost, wideband air/fuel, and oil pressure would be my choices. I run an a-pillar pod with A/F, temperature, and oil pressure and a single vent pod with a boost gauge.

Why would you need to add a boost gauge to a GT500 which already comes with a boost gauge in the dash from the factory?

Man..that's a hard one. I wouldn't do it without drilling..but I don't know if I'd do that to my GT500.

We usually use the A pillar. It's a lot easier. If you do it this way use SOS pillar. It's a factory match perfectly. You can also go in the vent slots as well.

The gauges themselves are fairly simple and straight forward.

Wideband air/fuel is a must and I would only add boost if you plan on adding more boost which I assume that's what you plan on. Oil pressue is a good one. If you get too crazy you you'll want a fuel pressure gauge as well.

Since the Shelby factory gauge only goes to 15 if you add say a smaller pulley that will bring you up to 12 psi but if you add say a 10% OD mine shot up to 17-18 psi so I had no choice but to add a gauge.

Hope this helps some.

I have been looking around at dash pods and have come to the conclusion that it would be better to use the A-pillar because of the leather and all, don't want any sticky marks left on the dash. I like the SOS pillar as well.

stlwagon, are you using the Roush vent pod? I think I like the look of your setup, especially the vent pods.

How many gauges on the pillar, will three be too much? I'm thinking Wideband A/F, temperature, oil pressure on the A-pillar and the Boost in a vent pod.

As for the boost, I know there is a gauge on the dash, but who wants to look at that little thing. I will possibly change out the pulleys in the future, but nothing drastic. Since I already have a boost gauge will I be able to tap into that?

Thanks
Mike

Hey Mike. I have 3 on my A Pillar and it works real well and doesn't seem to be to me too much at all.

I have a trip A-Pillar. Requires no drilling...just replaces the stock A-Pillar.

So SOS if you choose to go this road. They're great quality pieces.
