Default 2007 Shelby GT VS 2008 Shelby GT - Differences

Alright, now that the 2008 Shelby has been out for quite a while, I would like to discuss EVERY difference between the 2007 and 2008 Shelby GT. As far as I know, there isn't a 2009 SGT, only re-modified 2008 SGTs.

So far here's what I've come up with:
-replacement of the GT fender emblems with the Powered By Ford fender emblems
-black inner section (lower lip) on the front fascia
-black rear lower fascia (simulated diffuser)
-addition of two more paint colors: vista blue and grabber orange (SoCal); now: white, black, blue and orange
-optional Razor wheels

You need to talk to GaryPaul, AFM's resident Shelby expert. I willing to bet he could tell you the differences down to the nuts and bolts.

There is no difference except color choices and 2008 offered convertible version.

Black/White only in 2007

Blue/Orange only in 2008

Oh and the hood pins are a little different on the 08's

Here are a few comparison pics that I've found.

Forgot to mention that black SGT's are the fastest too

Remember those pics you posted are very old and were taken before actual production of the Shelby Gt's. For instance, the pics of the 07's have GT emblems and none of the production ones came with GT emblems. They all had Powered By Ford's emblems.

Well, I do remember one of the VERY early ones having GT emblems. This was back in late 2006 though. I remember it clearly because the car was next to my bay (at the dealership I used to work at), and I talked with the salesman about the car. It was being parked there in the back because the stripes were starting to peel off.

Never seen one with a GT badge or even heard of one with a GT badge. Could of been a clone the dealership did. I've seen a few do that.

Why was this moved to the GT500 forums ???

'07 Shelby GTs were available as coupes only, in white with silver stripes or black with silver stripes.

'08 Shelby GTs available as coupes or convertibles, in vista blue with silver stripes or grabber orange with silver stripes (200 for California distribution only) or black with red stripes (100 of a special Barrett-Jackson edition).

The unique Powered By Ford emblems were delayed and caused the prototypes and a very small number of early production cars to leave Shelby American with GT badges.

HID headlamps and ambient lighting options were new in '08 for all Mustangs and were available options on '08 Shelby GTs. NAV option was a late addition for all Mustangs late in 2007 and available on '08 Shelby GTs.

Thank you GaryPaul.

What about the small black center section- did they start painting them in 2008?

Prototypes did not have this section blacked out. Regular production did even in 2007. See pics below: promotional photo of prototype white Shelby GT unpainted (and has the GT badges) while regular production white 2007 Shelby GT does have this section blacked out (and has the Powered By Ford emblems). The second photo was posted here on AFM in January 2009 by member ann611.

Alright, so this makes sense- the prototypes and a FEW early production cars had GT emblems and did not have the center section blacked.

So, the only difference between the mid-production 2007 and 2008 cars are the addition of hood pins, two more colors and a convertible body style.

The Powered by Ford emblems and the front and rear blacked sections were 'normal' modifications.

Thanks.

Ahhh. I forgot to add the production rear simulated diffuser to the list.

Another thing I've discovered is that most of the 2007 SGT models had billet grill overlays. Later in 2007 and through 2008, Shelby made a complete billet housing that incorporated the billet grill. A small change, but a change for those who care.

Yet another discovery is that 2008 cars have the CSM number on the sill plates.
