I just stopped to take a look at a 2006 Shelby GT500 today. Price in the window was $18000. I'm hallucinating right? There's no way they're selling it for that price. Did they even make automatics?

Some kid paid for aftermarket Cobra emblems and striping to stick on his GT, right?

Its a GT that one put a body kit onto. The sad part is that after the body parts, painting, assembly ect he probably paid like $6k for it. And you could sell a stock gt in good shape for $18,000 right now

Shelby, like the Cobra are all stick. If you come across an automatic, it's just a clone. They're like the early Z28, they were all 4 speed cars, Mike.SCT Tuner.

It was after hours at the dealership when I stopped to look, so I wasn't able to ask. But the price and the automatic transmission is what made me suspicious. Thanks for the confirmation.

After taking the time to google for pics of the GT500, I can now tell that it doesn't even have a body kit.

Ah well, it was nice little dream.

I might still stop in and take a look and ask about any other aftermarket mods it might have.

You already know it's just a rebadged S197. And some have already correctly pointed out that all GT500s have 6-speed manuals (no automatics or even 5-speed sticks). But the first year for the S197 GT500 was 2007, so there couldn't even be a 2006 GT500.

Well, it's a moot point anyway. Yesterday afternoon and this morning when I drove by I didn't see it on the lot. So I guess they found a buyer.

Oh well. I was thinking about going in and acting dumb and seeing if they would try and pass it off as an authentic GT500.

Looks like its still on the lot after all. I stopped to look again, but apparently this dealership closes at 6:00 (when I get off work) and nobody was around.

However, this time, I took some pics with my cell phone. Just in case anyone was curious.

If I am correct the shebly dont have the fog lights in the grill, plus it a running horse on the grill, not a snake.

Yep. It's pretty obvious now. I just thought some people might want to see what I was talking about.

And looking up the VIN online only confirms what everyone has already said.
