Inquiries on the 2009 & 2010 Mustang GT V8 & GT500 Shelby
Greetings ladies & Gents,
First of all I apologies if I am posting this threat on the wrong forums, Kindly if so notify me in order to shift it to the correct location.
Second, Thank you for checking my post / inquiry.
Basically, I am thinking of buying my first "Mustang". I have been a fan since I was born, however now I am a bit confused. So if you could bear with me and go through with my Inquiry I would really appreciate it.
Here we go.
Our regional dealer currently has 2009 GT500 "Shelby" mustangs only. all of the GT Mustangs V8 2009 are sold out. and will not be getting the 2010 till Jan / Feb 2010.
The current Price for the Shelby 2009 is $49,000 ... The previous price of the GT V8 2009 was $34,000 Thats before it was sold out.
They are assuming that the new price of the 2010 Shelby will be $62,000 - $67,000 ... While the 2010 GT V8 might be between $39,000 - $49,000.
So The current price for the 2009 Shelby is actually the future price for the 2010 GT V8.
Based on my personal "Logic" It is better to get a 2009 Shelby, that to get a 2010 GT V8. Of course that is my personal opinion. As the Shelby is an Icon with 500hp.
As to my Inquiry, and please don't get the wrong idea here.
Should I actually get a Mustang ?
I am not trying to offend or be rude here, but that is a lot of money i am spending here.
And if so, Which should I get the 2009 or the 2010.
Because to be honest, I am not that big of a fan for the way the 2010 rear view Mustang looks, I still prefers the way the 2009 rear view is.
However the Front view of the 2010 is much better than the 2009.
While there is a slight difference in Horse Power between the 2009 Shelby & the 2010 Shelby. which is 40hp more. on the long run it does not make a huge difference to me. I mean it is appreciated but it is not worth that much of cash.
In addition, is it a reliable car ? or does it require special attention, service visits and checking up every now and then ?
At the end, I would like to say that I shall be waiting for your kind reply. and I would like to thank you for reading my post. Much appreciated.
All personal preference on the year. depends on which body style YOU like more. Like any car exspecially a Shelby its goin to need to be maintained and parts for the helby will most likely be more exspensive than the GT. Personally id get the '09 Shelby Vs the '10GT but then again the '10 is the new body style.

If I had the choice I would get the GT 500 anyday, but if you could hold off till next year there will be the return of the 5.0 with 400 hp/ 390trq but the ugly rearend and in 2012 the Boss will be back so pick your posion cause once you get the fever it never ends......

First of all, yes you should get a Mustang. Were you expecting another answer on a Mustang forum?
Second, are you in the US? I ask because the pricing you are being quoted on the 2010 GT seems quite high. You should be able to walk out with a reasonably well-loaded 2010 GT for less than $35K.
There are a number of differences between the 2009 and 2010 Shelby, with some of the magazines reporting that the 2010 handles better. OTOH, if I were choosing between a 2010 GT or a 2009 Shelby, I would go with the Shelby because they are rarer and will likely hold their resale value better. Some people might not want to use a Shelby as a daily driver, though.
Overall Mustangs are fairly reliable. You can check the ratings in Consumer Reports. Most of the issues I have with my '08 GT vert have to do with various rattles and creaks, as opposed to mechanical problems.
From what I've read

True, I really prefer the 2009 look, as it looks more like the original Mustang "Eleanor".
Well the Dealer told me that the car offer comes with a 5 year warranty and/or 200,000 Km which is 125,000 Miles.
I am agreeing with what you are saying, I am also more convinced that the 2009 Shelby is a better deal than the 2010 GT.

Well to be honest I don't think I can hold for that long. All that Youtube videos of Shelby ignition and muffler sound tests are making me addicted.
Plus I am not that big of a fan of the 2010 rear view, I don't know how to explain whats wrong with it, but I just prefer the term "I like the old view"
LoL, Indeed. So far i think my poison is going to be the GT500, I can almost hear that amazing engine sound.

No Sir I am not, I am in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Prices here are way over rated, They don't care about the original price they just set there own prices. I mean everything is overpriced here. all Sport cars have a difference of at least $17,000 more than the original US prices.
Wish if Ford could do something about it.

Indeed i heard the same thing about the handling. I too think that the GT500 is the better deal here.
It is not going to be my Daily Drive car though. As my original car is a Crown Victoria. So the Shelby is going to be my way of a Sunday drive once in a while. it will be considered as my Sport/Luxury car to drive once in a while from time to time on special specific times. While on the day to day basis my Crown Victoria is doing a well done job.

From what I've read
Indeed, I have spoken to some of my friends who own Mustangs, and they have informed me that the only issue they face from time to time are "Rattles & Creaks" and he told me that the Dealer Service Center fixes that normally.
I am just concerned regarding maintenance and just wanted to make sure. The dealer told me that they are offering the GT500 with a special deal of a 5 year warranty and/or 200,000 Km which is 125,000 Miles. and off course a 1 year of Insurance.
So far i am personally convinced that the GT500 is the best deal for me and I knew that since the day i tried sitting in it.
I shall keep checking regarding the price tags and other offers. if all goes to plan. I hope that I my self will be posting pictures of a GT 500 Shelby which will be mine

Maybe I should move to Saudi Arabia. I can't get my dealer to fix any of them without a fight.
