Default thinking of getting an 2007 or 2008 Mustang GT 500

Hi Everyone.. as the title says Im thinking of getting an 07 or 08 GT 500. I use to have a 2005 GT which I traded last year for a 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T (6 spd).. well after seeing that the prices of the GT 500 is something I can afford Im seriously considering it. My biggest concerns are what I have been reading about as far as issues with the clutch and the trannys.. any suggestions on what I should do? So I do try and get the GT 500 or stay with what I have.

PS Please dont kill me for getting rid of the 05 for the challenger.

Thanks

Are you keeping the Challenger as well?

While I do like the Challenger, I think the GT500 is a cut-above. The transmission is actually pretty beefy. Clutch isn't bad but that could certainly be upgraded quite easily.

yeah im no mopar guy or anything, but those challengers go hard i will say that.. im no expert on gt500's about their transmission, or about their Clutch's. Go for a white gt500 with blue pin stripes those look so amazing

There's not much difference mechanically. Lower mileage would be better.

The 08's have a lighter balancer. If you plan to upgrade the blower Ford says you need to change to the 08 balancer on 07's. I have had no problems with my clutch and I have not had the TSB done. I have heard people say that after they had the TSB on the clutch done it was much much better. I am not sure what the TSB is, possible something with the throw out bearing.... maybe a little more research to be done...

I also have a 09 SRT Challenger and it's nice. It is more of a cruiser than a performance car and my Cobra is my fast car. So it's all what you want your car to be I guess. Since you had an 05 you will know what to expect really. I don't think you will notice a huge power gain / faster until you upgrade the pulley and get a CAI on the cobra or change the blower. Either 1/4 mile or road coarse the Cobra can be made to do very well for both. Good luck on the decision man...

If you can afford an '09, then look for one with a build date of 9/08 or later. It's my understanding that any built before that date have the earlier clutch and flywheel that has warped for some people. Later clutch and flywheel is supposed to be better stuff; steel instead of nodular iron on the flywheel, and something about a nickel plated (?) clutch hub...

thanks shawn.. wow a GT 500 and the SRT... NICE!! now if I do pull the trigger.. I would stay with the fcactory supercharger but eventually I would want to change the pulley, CAI, mufflers and maybe hi flow cats.. thats about it.. so maybe the 08 would be better.. what color is the Challenger? Mines black and like I said before I have a custom Shaker kit put on.. looks pretty killer.. my next thing to think about would be which is better.. selling the Chally myself or trading it in.. luckily I only own about 20 on it.

You could also have the supercharger ported to squeeze a little more out of it.

Both the cobra and challenger are black. It is possible to get 600 rwhp with the stock blower on the car. Steigmeyer will port the blower and inlet elbow if you want. They also have a 'snakebite' kit that changes the gearing of the blower making 16ish lbs with the stock pulley.
