At any given time there are 30-50 Shelby GT500's on ebay
Not counting the regular Shelby GT
If a dealership had local customers pounding the door to pay 20K over
MSRP , I highly doubt they would bother w/ebay.
Alas there is a sucker born every minute.

This fabricated shortage by greedy dealerships will breed
alot of ill will towards ford in general.

On an interesting note , a local dealership is advertising
NEW 07 Vipers coupes or verts for 69,999.
In fact come to think of it, a new
viper vert would look great in my garage next to the Z.
Probably better than the shelby , time to get those deposits back

How about a Mustang for 12,000$ over sticker? I could have you one in a few days if you were interested.

It's cool man, the line just got shorter on the GT500 side then. I love how dealerships are referred to as greedy. Are you greedy for wanting top dollar for your house when you sell it? I dont think so.

We have a simple supply and demand issue going on. So if a guy comes in (this has happened) and begs me to find a GT500 for 20k over and I get him the car, that's being greedy? Come on.

How does this produce a backlash against Ford? We have a hot product! People are walking in the showroom just to see a GT500 and leave in a Fusion! It has happened!

Calm down, the market is there. Ebay is not the end all, be all market indicator

You're the problem and Ford Motor Company is the problem. If Ford would increase the production numbers this would not be happening right now. Again this product was for the general public( as in the middle class) without us there probably wouldn't be a mustang any longer, when they were thinking about phasing the Mustang out in the 80's. Now the only ones that can afford the car are the upper middle class because of the 20k markup. Just how hard would it be to keep the productions lines open 24 hours to keep up with demand instead of laying off 1000's of workers? And still make profit at sticker! Instead they and you make ill-will of this situation. I've been a Ford man all of my adult life and now even I'm starting to wonder about buying Ford again.

Well Jason you see I didn't take a contract on my 2 houses 9 months ago with a prospective buyer , agree to a price , procceed to take Multiple deposits , then decide the market is "too hot" so I keep them on the hook until a better offer comes through.

For those buyers that "beg" you with 20K plus over MSRP , they must be blind & illiterate as PLENTY can be found on ebay for much less.

The way I see it , for a company that is near bankruptcy You would think they would have the presence of mind to build as many cars as the market warrants as opposed to 2 million SUV's that gather dust in dealer lots. Then again , perhaps they could cook up amother T-Bird or Lincoln Blackwell . I'm sure shareholders & dealers alilke would be tickled pink .

God bless the Camaro & Challenger

Cheers

Well my opinon of anybody paying 20k over is that they are taking any apprecation that they MAY get and spending it up front...not a good idea...on the other hand I am a sales manager at a local ford dealer in baltimore dc area I have sold one shelby for 20k over sticker. Thats what he wanted..so I did it. As far as dmustang comment about jason99 being the problem...with that i cant agree... He is simply doing his job.. however I DO agree with Ford putting more products out for the market to want...I have personaly driven the shelby and have many long inspections of the car...for me it is not all that great...For me to buy one it would have to be a sticker or less....As for adm...I think that They will be going at 5k over in the next 3 or 4 months....

I think the GT500s are probably worth every penny, but not worth the markups dealers add to 'em.

First of all, this is a limited edition mustang. Ford doesn't produce these to meet demand. They have a set number they will build. The fact that they are so expensive(besides Shelby having his damn name on it), is because they are limited.

The '03/04s were going for mid 30s to upper 30s when they were new MSRP. The price difference isn't all that different(with exception to the markups).

One of the Ford dealers up here claims to have sold at least 18 GT-500 factory orders and at list price. Not some inflated price.
Here's some pics from when I was there yesterday. There was also a white GT-500 convertible in the shop.

Has nothing with not being able to. I just prefer to leave the Mustang and the Motorcycles in the garage and drive one of the two F150's in the driveway.

Damn right. I walked into my dealer because there was a red GT500 in the lot. This is a dealer I have purchased 9 trucks, one SUV and one 03 Cobra from in the last 4 1/2 years. I walk up to my sales guy and tell him. "I'll buy that GT500 right now and be gone in an hour if you sell it to me at retail". He went in to ask the sales manager and guess what? He sid no.

I went across the street and test drove a new Corvette, didn't like it. Asked for a Z06 and they said "All sold out"

I went to the Dodge dealer and asked to test drive a Viper. "No test drives" they said. I left.

I went to another Ford dealer and purchased my GT on the spot for A-plan and was out of there in less than an hour.

I would have purchsed the GT500 for retail

I would have purchsed a Z06 if they even tried to look for one (which they didn't)

I would probably have purchsed the Viper if they let me drive it.

It's a good thing there wasn't Ferrari dealership near by. I was buying something fast on that day But I was in no way paying over retail!

I am happy.... so far the Shelby GT500 has been more than what I expected. Prices seem to be in the 10 over still as an average. I hope they do come down more so others can get the car.

My mods and video dyno tests are on my HotRodHarrys.com website if you want to check them out.
