Obviously these people that have enough money to afford a GT500, have to sell their intelligence in order to obtain enough money to buy the car.

The car was stolen off the lot, not purchased. It was destroyed in a police chase.
Rolled.
It was sold to a salvager for less than the final bid, of $20,000. I speculate the high bidder was also the seller.
The seller described the car as a "great project car" or something.
