Look at the classic Shelby's, not the fastest car in the world but still bring the big bucks at auctions.
Yea, back then not to many people thought to lock the cars away. IN 10, 20, 30, 40 years... there will always be plenty of Low Mile examples of the latest edition available.
There are plenty of "collector" cars made in the 80's and 90's that have all kinds of low mile editions showing up on the web forsale and on ebay... just look.

Heck, you can build 500hp much cheaper out of a regualr GT, but thats not the point.

Defend your GT500's honor while bashing the other mustangs...nice.
Rather funny considering your favorite saying in your profile is "Faster, better, cheaper."

It's a ton of money, but hey Carroll isn't going to live forever
From a life long Corvette owner, who fell in love with the '67 Fastback at age 12, well, I finally have a Shelby Convertible! Yeah, it was expensive, but there are deals out there if you look. You just do not know what they will sell for until you sit down to write the check!
Yeah, I have heard of people paying $75 to $90k in Dallas, but is that real? I doubt it seriously! Heck, I would sell my GT500 convertible for $60k tomorrow! Here is the reality in the Kansas City area.
I stopped by Olathe Ford and all the sales reps were bragging about selling 30 Shelbys at $30k to $40K over MSRP! YOU KNOW that is pure BS! If it were true, the salesman would be drivng one from all the commission! (I put car salemen right above attorneys & politicians)
I wasn't even looking to buy, but found this 30 miles away for slightly over sticker. That dealer told me there has not been 30 Shelbys to sell in the midwest let alone 1 dealer! He knows, he sees the order reports from district managers!
I said, "Heck, I will buy it! The Z06 I was planning on trading for can wait. WHY? Because Carroll Shelby is not going to live forever! Even though us car nuts wish he could! IF THIS is the year he dies, and you have a real signature in your Shelby, the car will instantly double! In 40 years, maybe it will be worth $3M or $4M!
But then MAYBE nothing because there will be no gas!!! At any rate, it would make a great grandson present some day if you can afford to store it.
If car values mimic the past 50 years, that car will be worth $2.7M! (50 times actual purchase price) IF car prices continue to be an excellent investment it could even be $4M or more! And you know with all this global warming crap--(funny the TRUTH IS--satellite data actually reported average temps down .6 degrees, since 1990. Except for the 2 El Nino years!). the car could end up being priceless!
Really! IF environmental wackos have their way & take over, (who knows? Gore won the Man of the Year Award---isn't that sad with all the heroes returing from Iraq & Iran). Well, this car could be a museum piece that is truly PRICELESS!
Of course, the frigging tree huggers won't let us drill for oil in Anwar so we won't be able to drive them. But since that Shelby looks fast sitting still, I guess I will see my grandson just sitting in it and wondering what it was like in Grandpa's day when people loved their cars and actually drove them, instead of taking a the dang city bus!

if i ever had the cash to be able to afford a GT500, i don't know what i would do with it. I would want to drive it around and enjoy it to its fullest. But also, looking at a car enthusiast's perspective, and from a finacial stand point, it would be much wiser to hang on to the mint condition car.
No sour grapes here, I wanted to buy a GT 500 but wasn't willing to pay 30k over sticker. There definitely is value to the Shelby mystique, as evidenced by the Super Snake Cobra which recently went for 5 mil, but then it was truly one of a kind.
Some dealers seem willing to sell at sticker so there is hope for mere mortals to be able to own one. Maybe someday I'll find a mint trade-in....

Yeah, the GT500 is a rich boy's toy when back in the day, a normal person could buy them. I'm not bashing GT500 owners, I'm just saying that I wouldn't buy one. And as for sour grapes... everything the OP said is true, what's the problem with stating facts? lol. I do agree that the current shelby cars will not raise in value as much as the originals just b/c there are freaking so many of them built. I don't have exact numbers, but I've seen at least two in every dealer I've been to in the past year(probably around six dealers from big ones to small ones). And there are tons on ebay and everywhere else. All the people that could afford them already bought them, so now they are dusty in the dealer's showrooms while the "crappy" gts are still flying out of dealer's floors.
You can't predict value all on a name. If CS did something really bad to ruin his name, I guarantee that those "values" would drop a lot. Values are in the eyes of the beholder (the person buying your car). I will always say that b/c that is the truth and book "values" are stupid in the first place. It's all in how much a person will pay for it. And if your Shelby's "value" raises too much, guess what? You'll never be able to sell the damn thing. You won't want to get rid of it for less than it's book "value" and people looking to buy one will never have the money to do it.

Oh, its all about SHELBY... no doubt. Heck, you can build 500hp much cheaper out of a regualr GT, but thats not the point. Its everyons appeal to long term value, which might have worked in the 60's when nobody really knew that cars would hold and appreciate so much value over 40 years. Now people know what can happen and are locking them away or not driving them much. I predict in 40 years, most of these Shelby's will still be able to be found, making them not as valuable as many think they will be.
There seems to be more people on these forums that drive them as a daily driver than those that dont. I understand that not everyone that owns one is not on this forum. One guy had 53xx miles in 73 days... I have heard of one roll-over, 2 with blown motors.... When the next 40 years come around, there wont be very many that haved been modded, driven or wrecked. Im counting on all the other owners who drive and mod theirs to allow mine to appreciate.
Just got mine - a white/blue coupe. I traded in a black GT that I bought about 2 years ago. I loved that car but wanted a Shelby - I wouldn't pay 30k over when they came out. I enjoyed the GT - its a great car. As soon as I could make a good deal on the GT-500 I did with no regrets its a completely different animal. Now that the dmo's are way down its a great car for the money just like the GT's are great cars for the money. It's a great time for Mustang fans.

Both of my local dealers that I stop by from time to time are still asking $20k over. I am not sure what they are letting them go for though. I agree its a great car for the money if you can get it close to sticker, or even a bit below like any other car when you go buy it.

No one is shooting down the GT-500, we are smarter at saving money and investing in real items that are truely worth the price. Every GT-500 is the same, seen one seen them all, it wasn't like that in the 60's (I know because I lived it). Why in the world would anybody pay over sticker for "any" car is beyond me. Wait 6 months and pay sticker or less. Check out EBAY as an example. My local Ford dealer here(Walker) has three at sticker and if you buy a F150 plus the GT-500 he will reduce the GT-500 by 12,000.00. What a deal.

Smarter would be in your own opinion. I have 2 of them and love them and no...if you seen mine it is FAR from all the others. Not everyone paid over sticker for them and if they did then more power to them if they can afford it.
if i could afford a GT500 i would buy one because they are awesome plus, i am kinda lazy. Having stripes and a blower from the factory would take care of something that i am too lazy to do myself
There are absolutely no disappointments with this car
It’s sad all you Mustang guys trashing on the GT-500. The 2007~2008 Shelby GT500 Mustang is the best looking best performing Mustang Ford has ever built. I bought mine to drive PERIOD.
I couldn’t give a rodent’s derriere about CARROLL SHELBY or having his name on my car. I simply put up with it because it is the ONLY way to get a FACTORY (not modified) FORD supercharged 500 Horsepower hand built 5.4 liter race engine and a six-speed transmission in a bone stock car for under $50,000, PERIOD! I’ve had a lifetime of half-assed hotrods, there is absolutely no comparing an after market modified car with the factory 500 Horsepower hand built race engine you get in the GT500.
I’m about the go, not the show, I’m not into BLING. Having 500 factory Horsepower complete with a 5-year / 60,000 mile warranty is simply not going to happen with a modified 4.6. I bought my GT500 to DRIVE not as an investment, that is as stupid as investing in diamonds or lottery tickets.
There are absolutely no disappointments with this car. It really is sad you guys can’t appreciate just what an outstanding car the new GT500 is. If you got to drive a new GT500 you would change your tune pronto.
