I call BS on this.
There simply IS NOT $12,000.00 to give away!
MSRP on the coupe with NO OPTIONS is ~$40K Invoice is ~$37K.
Are you saying you have a Ford dealer in Clearwater, FL who is selling 3 NEW GT500’s at ~$28K, $9000 under invoice??? Less than the invoice price of a Bullitt?
Maybe you believe a new car dealership stays in business by selling cars for less than they pay? Sorry! Not happening.

Oh, he will if you make it up with ADM on a truck, If you would rather pay your $12,000+ ADM on an F-150, have at it.

As to being smart and investing in “real items worth the price”? WTF? If you are “investing” your money in cars and car parts, SMART is nowhere near the top of your description list.

People have been waiting for well over two years, if you are content to watch from the sidelines, have at it. I waited for my spot for mine to be built for over 18 months. On the other hand, if you actually want to play, you have to pay.

Do you spend money on entertainment? Vacations? A new HD TV? Your cable TV bill? The bar on Friday night? Lottery tickets? That as they say is entertainment. You seem to be confusing entertainment expenditures with investments.

The money I spent on my 500 Horsepower GT500 is purely entertainment, not an investment. I can’t keep the grin off my face when I drive it. I consider it “entertainment“ money well spent.

Show me where you can buy any other FACTORY 500 horsepower car anywhere on the planet for under $50,000. I won’t wait for your reply, because everyone knows it simply cannot be done.

Wait 6 months and pay sticker or less. Check out EBAY as an example. My local Ford dealer here(Walker) has three at sticker and if you buy a F150 plus the GT-500 he will reduce the GT-500 by 12,000.00. What a deal.

It really is sad you guys can’t appreciate just what an outstanding car the new GT500 is. If you got to drive a new GT500 you would change your tune pronto.
I agree with you 100%. If that GT500 were sitting in certain responders driveways RIGHT NOW, their tunes would be different.

While a lot of people on these forums modify their cars and can definitely get horsepower above the GT500, they can't say they still have the warranty or the GT500 amenities.

Lets not forget that GT500 owners aren't paying for just a name as so many people seem to think so. By the time you take a GT and modify it to the performance AND interior of the GT500, you'll probably have spent more than a GT500... with no warranty.

I think the GT500 is an awesome car and god I love your plain black one. What an awesome looking car and I can only imagine what it's like to drive with 500+HP. It must also be VERY comforting knowing you can drive that thing just like any other car you've ever bought and STILL be covered under manufacturers warranty

EDIT - I don't like the rims on the GT500's though There are about 15 rims to come to mind instantly that I think are MUCH better than the rims on the GT500... hell, I think STOCK GT rims look better

You are absolutely right. BANG for the BUCK, nothing on the planet comes close to comparing to the FACTORY warranted 500 horsepower GT500. The only guys arguing otherwise do not have one.

For less than what a comparable 2008 Chevy 505-horsepower Z06 ($72,985~$82,000 MSRP) or the 2008 now 600-horsepower Viper SRT-10 ($85,985~$98,110 MSRP) costs I have my 2008 GT500 ($45,095 MSRP) and my Wife’s 2008 Bullitt ($32,165 MSRP).

Anyone building a comparable car out of a $30,000 Mustang GT faced with the cost of parts and labor, to change the engine, exhaust system, 6 speed transmission, brakes, suspension, leather interior and all body parts will be well above the cost of buying a brand new GT500, and they still won’t have one.

That warranty issue becomes even more important to me this week. It seems the Ford dealer service department will be putting a BRAND NEW 6.0 liter power stroke turbo diesel engine into my 45,xxx mile 2005 (totally unmodified, thank god) F-450. We should know for sure today. The cost of doing that engine replacement out of my pocket would cost me more than another brand new V-6 Mustang. I have a GREAT appreciation of not violating my warranty terms.

I too do not care for the rims on the 2007~2008 Shelby GT500’s either. I’m not sure why but they remind me of the mid ‘70’s Trans Am honeycomb wheel, which I never cared for. But I will not be replacing them. I will tell you they are easier to wash than many other wheels I have washed.

I much prefer the wheels that will be coming on my wife’s new 2008 Bullitt. Funny, she prefers the wheels on my Shelby GT500. Too bad I can swap them…

Cheers

Default I will sell my new 08 Shelby GT500 Conv for $55k

Hi Everyone,

I am amazed at all the dealers asking $20k to $30k over sticker! Do people really pay that much?

Anyway, I would be happy to sell my Torch red Convertible, w/two tone leather (black with dark red inserts), Shaker 1000, white rocker stripe with black convertible top for $55k. The dealer put on 1000 miles and I added another 350. It is a very nice car, but I own a Corvette too, so it needs to go.

Give me a call at 913-897-5742 and let's work a deal.

Jim
Kansas

I think a few of you owners got a little uptight at some comments made on here. I was not, as I don't think others were, bashing the car. We were bashing the price and the choices (Locking them away and tralering them to shows) of some owners and what they are paying.

To those fo you that are here, please remember where you are. Not all owners seek out forums liek these, and those that do are usualy real enthusiast who actually like the car for waht it is. We have maybe 10 or so GT500 owners here out of a totla of about 20-30K cars sold.

They are a great car for the Prices as I said above, if you can get near sticker. Though as a perfromance car, they are measure in performance numbers, not just a HP rating. On the track, they do not compare to a Z06. Then again, a Z06 is a completely different breed of perfromace car and shouldn't always be compared to a Mustang enthusiast's choice of purchase.

If you got a GT500 Shelby for $45,000 dollars, buy a few more and sell them for $10,000 more. That is an incredible price.

I would buy one tomorrow for that price. Most GT500's in Seattle area are $65-75,000. I worked a friend into one for $62,000 and that was not too bad a deal.

I have driven his very hard. These cars are made to be beat on, hell even my 4.6 GT has been stomped all over from 2005-2006 and has never had an issue. I drive kind of relaxed now as I know what it can do.

We took his GT500 and put a pulley-tune-CAI on it and it friggin screams. Nearly 600RWHP to the street. For it's weight, and it is kind of heavy- I can can beat it in the corners, it is indeed a 'supercar'. I think the gas tank is too small, after beating on it for an hour and a half, it was really low in fuel, surprisingly.

I have about $10k in aftermarket parts between body, suspension, wheels, and power mods and if I added a $6k twin screw, at about 475-500 rwhp, it could out perform the "stock" Shelby BUT...it is not a Shelby in name. It never will be a Shelby. For $15,000 over $28,000 ($42k +) the GT is a supercar in it's own right. Just look at the 1/4 ET's and the road track wins compiled by Steeda Q series.

If a guy buys a car to lock it away for 40 years, lol, that is sad. Nobody knows what will happen in 40 years with oil supply-prices. Hell, god forbid, any of us can have our number come up. You want your kid to inherit the Shelby and stick his foot thru it when you never did?

Lol, drive the damn car ffs.

If I had a GT500, I would lose the cheezy wheels, they look horrible, keep the supercar rubber, put Borla exhaust on, LT headers to realize better flow, keep the Xpipe, and pulley it down or even go with upgraded SC to get 700 ponies on the tarmac. Drop the 4x4 suspension about 1.25" add shocks and better anti sways, and then smoke everything that drives on 4 wheels in sight.

The GT500's potential is sick, heavy or not.

Mind you, bone stock, they kick arse.

GT500...well done by Ford Engineers, shame on dealers for the rapage but, that's life.

The Vette and Viper are in an exotic class akin to the Ferrari's and Lambo's, S197's are Pony cars. Apples and Oranges.

I'm giving GT500 3 thumbs up, if'n ya know what I mean.

I just bought a 08 GT 500 and it is a great car! I don't know why people are saying they aren't worth paying over sticker because anyone with a simple GT would trade in a minute. They are a collectors car that has brought over MSRP for 2 years now and that says it all. And for the most part regular people don't really know all the different types of mustangs.

I remember someone saying that the stock GT's suspension and the GT500 suspension is the same. But its not a hard upgrade so i don't know why everyone complains. mustangs are meant to be modified. So buy one, and modify it!! haha

The GT500's engine has such potential to go well above 700 RWHP with only a handful of mods, and nothing too extreme.

if you complain about it being heavy, then go on a diet, so its lighter(you the driver, not the car)

I would definitely pay MSRP for a 500, but the dealers just won't work it. The salesman that I deal with for all my company vans and trucks says that the dealership owner won't let them sell for MSRP (not even to employees). I just refuse, like many, to pay over MSRP for it. Funny....I got my SGT and Bullitt both for under MSRP at this dealer.
