So, I thought the cars were pretty rare, and not too many of them out on the street. Well this week I saw one on the road. Then I went to a modest Show and Shine car show today sponsored by a Local Mustang club and guess what... 2 GT500's showed up. 1 Hard top and 1 convertible.
I was like.. yup... thats worth $80K... not!
They didn't even get as much attention as some of the 5.0's did. Plus, one guy driving his killed it backing into a parking spot... in front of everyone LOL.

We have six or seven of them in our club. The guys drive them pretty regularly. We also have a girl with a Parnelli Jones edition. In my opinion it's much cooler and more collectible than the GT500s. She paid $75k for it.

If you look at ebay, there seems to be quite a few up for sale, around the 60k vs 75-79k they were a few months ago. Maybe people just do not want to pay that much over MSRP. One ebay lister states they have 10 available.

I am still confused what is so specail about it? To pay over MSRP makes no sense to me on any vehicle, especially since you can take that extra cash and buy a car of better value and performance. Motortrend/MM&FF/Car and Driver all have Roush Stage 3s and Saleen S281 SCs outperforming the Gt 500. Maybe it's just the lust over Shelby?? Edmunds had an article a few months ago on how to build your own GT 500 eater for about 5 grand less then the MSRP on the GT 500. With that conclusion I am still lost on the appeal of the GT 500. Maybe it comes with a set of beer flavored nipples or something I am unaware of.
I guess it's the mystic of owning a Shelby. I would like to have one but am not into paying over MSRP. I didn't do it last year when I bought my GT and I'm not going to do it for the GT500.

Oh, its all about SHELBY... no doubt. Heck, you can build 500hp much cheaper out of a regualr GT, but thats not the point. Its everyons appeal to long term value, which might have worked in the 60's when nobody really knew that cars would hold and appreciate so much value over 40 years. Now people know what can happen and are locking them away or not driving them much. I predict in 40 years, most of these Shelby's will still be able to be found, making them not as valuable as many think they will be.

It's the 5.4 built motor with the 6 speed tranny that makes them special IMHO. One of the guys in 2horse and my club has exhaust, whipple SC and a tune and says he has 700hp to the ground.

You may not be able to buy gas 40 years from now. Hydrogen fuel cells, solar-electric, who knows?

The dealers are counting on the speculation of investment collectors to buy them at inflated prices.
I tried to get the dealer down to a reasonable price, but he wouldn't budge much.
This same dealer also has a Ford GT, sticker price $157k, they want $199k when they're going for roughly sticker on ebay.
I just don't think the Shelby will appreciate much until they are 40 years old like the originals.
The GT will go up, but that's a lot of cash for a car you wouldn't dare drive.
A similar thing happened with Ferrari, wildy inflated prices, F40s going for 450k. They are considerably less now...
In defense of the GT 500 (yes I own one)... Where are you going to get a car that you can bolt on 140 RWHP for under 2K. Shelby will be worth more forever than any piece of crap you build to try and beat it. I will have my warranty for 6 years with the added HP. Shelby has a long history of quality and performance and after he passes on (and he's long in the tooth) the cars will be worth that much more. Look at the classic Shelby's, not the fastest car in the world but still bring the big bucks at auctions. So, anyone shooting down the GT 500 has sour grapes.

Buick Grand National
89 Turbo Trans Am
Omni GLH
Eclipse/Talon TSI
SVO Mustang
Thunderbird Turbo Coupe
Merkur SR4Ti
Toyot Supra (maybe not... parts for this one get kind of expensive)
I could probably keep going, Though you get my point... plenty of them out there. What it really takes is just some Forced Induction already equipped to the car.
I don't have sour grapes... you my friend sound like you have a superiority complex. For the Money you paid... you should have got a Z06. Performace is better... just admit it, you wanted the Name. Its fine... those buying Lexus, Acura, Infiniti are doing the same, becasue they could buy the same car with Toyota, Honda, or Nissan on the bumper.
