I have not seen any dealer asking less than $20K over MSRP for GT 500: I have however, seen a few on ebay from dealers for $55K or $10K over MSRP.

Yep, the price they are askign is on Par with the rest of the country. You might Try Lance Cunningham Ford in Knoxville, TN. They Sell Rousch, and have had a few GT500s and Ford GT's So they may be willing to deal more... but who knows.

They go for about 65k here. Ridiculous money. Just just for the collectors aspect it will be worth it eventually, but I wouldn't do it. I wanted one but when I saw what the markup was, no way. You can make a gt faster in a straight line and on a track for much less. Road and Track put a Shelby up against the new vette and the vette won in every category of speed and on the track. All the addon stuff makes the car really nose heavy and it understeers badly on the track, so the vette spanked it. A turbo GT setup properly can do much better, for a lot less money. I also heard a shelby over the weekend and the exhaust sounded WEAK. That would need to be changed out too. I know you can get more HP out of it, but for that kind of money I think it STINKS that it can't top a vette STOCK, and you are never going to overcome the fact that it is very unbalanced (nose heavy).

Ford needs a NA engine to rival the Chevy, and they need to design the next Stang with a rear mount tranny like the vette to keep the balance right. The GT isn't at that price point, so for what it is, it is the best. The shelby does not live up to its price point. They extra 20K being tacked on is an extra slap in the face, because it puts you in the price range of a superior sports car.

What's up man, I'm in S.C. too! I remember seeing a GT500 convertible a while back at either Bob Bennett Ford or Pulliam Ford over in Columbia. I'm going to say Pulliam because they usually have 2 - 3 Roush Mustangs in stock. When I inquired about the pricing, they told me they were selling it for $68,000. It's not listed on their website so I'm not sure if they still have it. That's the lowest price I've seen but then again that's the only GT500 I've seen in this area. Have yet to see one on the road.

Your friend might want to check out some dealerships just over the border in Georgia. As a matter of fact, Bobby Jones Ford in Augusta has a white GT500 in stock but it lists the sticker price, not the price it's jacked up to. Here's the link directly to the page...you're friend (or you) can always call and inquire about the price.

Bobby Jones Ford [(888) 733 3351] - 2007 Shelby GT500

In my opinion, the Shelby just isn't worth it. If I was that serious about horsepower I would just get a GT and make the power. Even last night when I was watching MotorWeek, they tested a Lotus Exige S and it was mentioned it could hang with the Shelby GT500 (performance wise) despite the fact it's no where near making the horsepower that the Shelby makes (220 vs. 500)...but it's extremely light and more nimble. Don't know, I'd be ticked if I spent $65,000 for Mustang GT500 and a neighbor of mine when out and got a Lotus that cost $10,000 less than the markup value on the GT500 and could hang with me performance wise. But that's just me...too much money and not enough performance in my opinion. I think your friend should look into a Roush or Saleen personally as I think they are actually worth the price, moreso than a GT500.

From what I have heard (I have not researched this yet, so take it for what it is) that the GT's nose to tail ratio is like 51 to 49. The GT500 is something asinine like 70 to 30. I was talking with a Gentleman on the phone who actually bought one (he was selling his GT to pay for the Shelby) and he said that he nearly lost the car blasting through the gears on an onramp. He said that after he hit 2nd gear, the rearend broke loose and completely came around on him, twice. He said it was the scariest thing he had experienced, and this was only after a week of owning it.

My opinion, the GT is the best bang for the buck...endless possibilities (as you can see on this forum) and a superior interior (not as bland and boring). I would never own a Shelby if I had the money. I would buy three GT's.

That is a fair market price at this time. I would love to have one at MSRP, but I don't see that happening...ever

Not too long ago when at my tuners garage, they were rolling out a 2006 twin turbo mustang gt with 900 RWHP. The owner had invested 25K into his car.

Think about it. We are talking about a car that can make a mockery of anything you will ever encounter in a street race (unless you come up on a hennesey viper or twin turbo corvette), all for 50K of investment. The only reason to buy a shelby, would be for the collectors value. If you want performance, get a GT, mod it, and put the rest of your money in the bank.

Agree 100% and that is pretty much the route I am going. And having a good time getting there, the people on this site have been wonderful with the advice and answering my novice questions. I have pmd at least 11 different people with questions and to a person everyone has been great.

Ditto on the quality of people on this site. They are always cool people, every one I have talked to, every time.

I am done moding this car, and plan to give this to the wife in a year or two, and buy a roush s/c mustang. They are selling them for 42k at my favorite dealership. It is hard for a s/c car to match the absolute hp of a turbo car, but I can't handle the fact that turbos have not so impressive performance at low revs, especially if you use larger turbos that yield the big numbers. S/C cars are so much better at the low revs, and that is important to me. I don't want to run high revs to have power. Thats what ricer cars are all about, and I don't dig that routine. I want my thrust there from the bottom, even if it means less maximum hp at the top. After all, what on earth is the average guy going to do with 800 or 900 rwhp anyway? I "only" want about 450 rwhp in my next stang, so using a blown car with a bit of tweaking should do nicely.

I was looking at the GT500 in the stealership when my g/f was buying her focus a few weeks ago. 25k market adjustment! that led to a 73k price

Then talking to the person that has you sign all the paperwork she said they wont get that. Offer them 10k over sticker and I bet its yours.

Whatever happened to the mustang being the car of the common working man?

If there is one just "sitting" in a dealership where you live you are probably right. It doesn't work that way around there though. They are backordered, far, far out, and there is a line of people waiting to pay the higher price. Most dealerships here haven't even gotten one yet.
I heard one went for almost 70k and that is sickening to me.

Well, guess what, a Z06 lists at 70K, and then you are talking about a lightweight 500HP car, with race quality handling, that can hang with OR BEAT quarter million dollar supercars around a race course.

You can see why I say the Shelby is a collectors item really, and investment, and you might as well put it into storage if you buy one and retain the value. Its really a shame that it turned out this way.

Many of the dealer around here have 2-3 GT500s sitting on the showroom floor. However, you ill be paying $20K-$25K over MSRP for that infamous "market adjustment".

A mustang is for the common man, but to be competitive with all peopel, the Shelby is for the man who has everything or the upscale clientel.
