Default Shelby GT Gets Bashed On In Car & Driver

Hey everyone,
I just figured I would update the people who don't get Car & Driver magazine about the latest test of the 07' Ford Shelby GT.(5M)
*Well It came in 4th place out of 4! Not good. The RX-8 was 1st, Audi TT 2nd, 350z 3rd, and you know 4th already. The RX-8 ran 15.0@93, TT ran 14.6@97, 350z ran 13.7@104, & The Shelby GT ran 13.7@104. The shelby was the quickest by a 10th to 60 mph at 5.2 seconds.
Car and Driver always had the slowest times for the cars, Motor Trend almost always has the best times.
Ok what they liked about the Shelby GT: Exterior Style, Exhaust Rumble, Power Oversteer On Demand, V8, Acceleration,(Smooth Road) Ride & Body Roll.
Ok now what they didn't like: Live Axle, Handling, Front Suspension, Overall Ride Quality, Braking, Curb Weight, Overboosted Numb Steering, Hurst Shifter, Hard To Read Speedometer, & Cheap Feeling Interior. *They mentioned your better off with the Standart Mustang GT.
Wow they really didn't like this Shelby at all! It made me mad reading this and I don't see most of these issues in my Regular GT.*I realize It's a different car but still, it can't be that bad. It's all a matter of opinion I guess. Did anybody else read this crap and If you did what do you guys think. So sad that the unreliable-slow RX-8 came in 1st place. You gotta love the magazines
**Also, I love my Hurst Shifter!! They claim it was so stiff they could barely do the 2-3 & 4-5 shifts. I have no problem with mine. They have to break in also, maybe thats it. It seems like mine isn't as stiff now, or maybe I'm just used to it. Regardless, It was so worth the money & I love every shift. Later guys

It's all about the advertisers! They'll make anything look good for a price.

Thats no lie.
Look at Motor Trend.
Car of the year?
Car with the most advertising more like it.
2005 was the Crapsler 300 for Gods sake.

So the GT is actually faster than the Shelby huh? The Shelby only does 0-60 in 5.2? Jeepers, my GT does it in 5.1 sec.

Looks like I could hang right there in the 1/4 mile too. I wonder what 16 year old they had doing this test?

The only thing better, about the RX-8, is handling. Other than that... Not one thing stacks up.

An rx8 getting a better review than a Shelby? That throws all my interest in the article out the window, thats crap. Not to mention how ugly they look.

I totally agree with you 100%! It always seems like Car&Driver is about a half second behind the other mags. I think they do a standing start from an idle and don't shift it very fast. That's what someone told me and from thier #'s I totally believe it. I think Motor Trend ran a 13.3@105 with the Hertz GT-H If I'm not mistaken and it's basicly the same car power wise. I have to find the article and check the numbers.
Also your right, the handling is the only thing that the RX-8 is better than the Mustang at. It doesn't even get better gas mileage!!

Look at the cars they tested it against. they all weigh half what the shelby does. One german and two rice burners. Now thats a real comparison.

not to mention the RX-8 motor is a 1.3L and the gas mileage is half what the Shelby GT is rated. and, the extra maintenance of the rotary engine. you have to add a quart of oil like every month.
amazing that 232 hp can be squeezed out of that little motor, but the torque is gag worthy.

Pretty car though.

* I take back the gas mileage quote. I was thinking of the earlier generations where I think it got 19 on the highway. the 2008 rate it about the same as a Gt*

Ah, don't worry about it. Car and Driver, Hot Rod, Motor Trend, they all have no driving fools who can't even do a proper burnout. They launch at dead idle, no revving, and granny shift way too low. I've seen one of C&D so called "road tests" done and they can not drive. All they care about are the high end high zoot European cars. If it has a roar or growl when it's revved, not a ziiiiing, they automatically don't like the car, no matter what it is.

The only review I trust is Consumer Reports. All the others are so biased.

Well, it is true...the Shelby GT is really nothing more than a slightly modded GT...and if you want to pay for the Shelby name that's exactly what you're paying for...and some the ADM on them is ridiculous, but they will always find buyers for that. Right now, I'm satisfied with the GT I have and I didn't have to pay through the nose to get it.
