Default GT 500's Slump Sales

Tomorrow the Lady In Red will be 1 yo, and my dealer, knowing, that I usually trade every year or two using x-plan.

Last year when I picked her up, I said to my dealer (remember rumors of a Boss 302 might be produced for 2008?) if they are made call me for a Boss.
Well we all know the Boss was not made, only the engine was/is.

Anyway, she said oh we have not seen you in for service (coz I use another dealer now, besides when does a sales person call you for service ) and then went on to say, oh you know we have a GT 500 and a Shelby available. Hmmmm, must be getting stuck with them.

So I said, oh ya, it is a 2007 or 2008. She said a 2007, well I said the 2008's are coming out, so I would not be interested.

Hmmmm what gets me is, I asked about it last year and they said, they wanted 25K over, and the owner gives them to his friends first. Well, I guess the owner ran out of friends .

I didn't even ask what the + MSRP is, beause just have no interest in them right now, that they need to dump them. When they wanted to soak me for one last year, now they can shove them. I know for a fact they are still MSRP-plusing them. hmmmm I would have to put some 30+k more plus a trade, just not worth it.

Guess lots of dealers jacked themselves on these, and actually the dealers jacked Ford for not getting them on the roads. so will production of the 2008's be reduced ? ?

guess they are starting to realize, these babies are really a model year old, resale sucks, demand it down, +MSRP is wild, and will get worse when to competition hits the road.

i think that this upcoming year the markup will be down to 5,000 to 10,000 range. with all of the new goodies coming out like the GT500KR and also, the declined demand for GT500's, i think they will lower the price to about this range. ford has just run out of people who are willing to pay that much over MSRP to get the car.

5k is more reasonable, but I still wouldnt never pay for 50k for a mustang. I'd pay MSRP for one, not a dime over it.

I was at the dealer yesterday not sure which mustang it was I just walked passed it and saw the little sticker on the window 25 grand mark up. The total price was almost 75 grand. It was a vert it did have gt 500 letters on the bottom of the door. I will have to go back and take a look at the sticker. They also had a Parnelli car there they wanted 20 grand mark up on that one. I just shook my head and walked out.

You can get them around here for about 50K. Like someone else said we have the GT500KR and Super Snake coming out. Of course they will be in the 75-100k RANGE!!

I'm curious to what the mark-up will be with the new Chargers & Camaros

I was thinking about that after I left the Ford dealer. Chevy started out 5k over list for the zo6 vette when they first came out. Now you can get 3 to 5k off of list for the same vette. You have to be patient or pay the price.

As much as the greedy dealers can get. Expect in hot markets to see $10K-$20K markups. When the new Mustang hit my area in 2004/2005, the dealers were asking anything from $3K-$14K over MSRP...and that is for a Mustang GT...NOT A GT500 (which had a $20K-$35K markup in early 2007).

I expect the markup for the Challenger to be higher than that of the Camaro. The Challenger only has a V8 option (340 hp or 425 hp), while the Camaro will have a V6 option and a V8 option with a convertible and SS model a year later.

Saw 4 GT500s at a dealer yesterday. Stopped by to havea first hand look. Gotta say, wasn't impressed. Maybe cuz I'm tired of all the hype/press they got.

Anyway, I looked at the price tag. 44k on all of em. No market adjustment was on the window sticker. Does that mean they were selling em for 44k?

Could be, but they usually have that little added sticker to the right or left of the OEM MSRP sticker showing the dealer addons and adjustment price. I have even seen them on the front windshields.

Me? Ummm...sorry I can't remember the name, but it's the Ford dealer on Route 22 in Phillipsburg, NJ. Right accross from a bowling alley. You can try and search for that dealer on Fords site. It's either a 18040 zip or 18042.

This is kinda funny:

Price to Horsepower ratio

$45,000 to 500 hp = $90 per horse
$35,000 to 390 hp = $89.7 per horse

Pretty close surprisingly, right? I guess if Dealers weren't charging 10k+ over that, 44k for 50 hp is pretty reasonable if one would consider the Terminator good bang for the buck.

although one could argue that the GT500 is about 300 pounds heavier. The car shoulda been 40k MSRP if they used the name SVT instead of Shelby.
