I just called up Tremec and asked them a few questions about the TR6060:

Question: Why isn't it on the web site? Do you have a PDF you can send me?
Answer: It's only sold through OEM and we are in between web guys, just brought a new guy in. Also we will be coming out with a T56 Magnum soon that will have some of the same design features as the TR6060. Haven't seen a PDF on the TR6060.

Question: What about the problems I have heard about?
Answer: There were some clutch problems with the GT500. Trans was built as Ford requested, but after problems were encountered, Ford asked to make some changes to the trans regarding the clutch design used.

Question: Was that the input spline issue?
Answer: Yes. Have not heard about any internal trans problems. (He didn't offer any details on the spline changes, have heard maybe it had a special plating done to the input shaft).

He said I could call back with the trans tag codes so he could tell me when it was built, etc....

I think the problem was in both. I'm sure you'll get mixed answers when asking though. So far though I think they fixed the problem cause I haven't had anymore issues with my newest one. Yep..I would find out when it's built because that will tell everything. I do know though that it was a problem with both..the clutch and the splines..atleast on my car. Again I'm on my 3rd clutch and 2nd tranny.

I got the codes and Tremec said it was a prototype transmission and I shouldn't pay more than a few hundred dollars and plan on a rebuild since it was a test mule car and probably highly abused. Think I'll pass.

This tech also told me that the problem with the splines was that they needed more clearance for Ford's clutch to work with it, so that's what the difference is on the later units... He mentioned that the spin down time on the clutch was 7 to 10 seconds, so you couldn't put your car in gear for 7 to 10 seconds when you came to a stop.

My friends clutch was bad from get go. I heard it slipping from day 1.

After beating on it, it is worse.

Ford will give him new clutch AND they are awaiting new GT500 alum flywheel they also will give him...free.

=)

Hi All!

Sorry to barge in here in the fancy section....

So what's the verdict? Do I need to find a 6060 with the 8R3Z-7003-AC part number to be safe?

I have found several on-line ranging from $2,200 to $4,000 so it differs.... I'd rather pay more and have it work/last.

I will be sending 800 HP through it to slicks so it gotta hold up!!

Regards,

The problem is probably more related to hydraulic slave cylinder in the clutch assy. It is the weak link on both the GT 500's and the Standard GT's. I have a Shelby GT and upgraded to a 450+ supercharger setup and started experiencing similar problems. Mine is more of an issue when speed shifting to third the slave cylinder does not alway release proprely so the motor goes to redlines until i let off and let the stupid slave cylinder catch up. So far Ford does not have a fix. My local tech said he saw somthing on a fix but he has not got back to me. He did say they have had issues locally on some GT 500's and of course with guys like me who bumped the HP on regular GT's. Ram has an aftermarket kit that is suppossed to work with both single and dual after market clutches. About $380 plus whatever it cost to install.
