My 1976 Cobra 2, the engine turns but does not turn on, tried adjusting the shifter but still the same. could it be the carburettor?

Not sure what you mean turn on? Does it crank over? check solenoid on fender .battery good? starter good? ignition switch good? can`t remember if it had switch on clutch pedal(looks like brake switch) that would keep it from starting.if it cranks over but no start,check ignition system,wires, coil,brain box on fender,distributor inside....etc. hopes this helps

ok, pour a little gas in the carb, it will start. if it stays on, i have no idea, but if it shuts off, check your fuel system.... fuel filter, fuel pump, make sure the lines are good...ect
