Well... I sold my first project car today.
It was my first Ford, my first Mustang, my first Mustang II, my first 2.3, my first manual
trans... The car was a lot of firsts for me.
Today... it was another first. It was the first time I've ever sold a car to the junkyard.
Didn't really want to, but after 9 months of no serious offers/buyers and the city getting ready to do "junk car round-ups" again, I had to get rid of it.
I stripped a lot of pieces for my own use, and a few to re-sell. Got $254 for the rest, which is more than I was asking in the end.
I'll miss the poor old '74. I learned a lot from that car. It was the source of a lot of my automotive education over the past 7 years, I'll never forget the poor thing.
My only two regrets are that it had a brand new clutch in it when it hit the salvage yard (kinda sucks that it only had 100 yards on it) and that I only drove it a couple of times for a total distance of maybe 50 miles.
Kinda like saying goodbye to an old friend... Seeing the poor thing get picked up by that forklift to be weighed was one of the saddest things I've ever been through.
On a good note, some of that car is going to be what keeps my '76 going. My '76 needs a gas tank and filler neck that don't leak, the '74's tank and filler are going into it Monday. And a few pieces are going to be going to other Mustang II owners soon (got a pair of original General Electric headlights that I'm sending to one certain II owner for sure).
