Hello!
I found a King Cobra, or atleast the guy tells me that's what it is. I was wondering what the worth of it is, as I'm interested in buying it.
It's orange and from what I remember has pin stripping on hood. The Paint is faded. It has T-Top, it's a 4 speed, the interior looks fair at best, you know not bad but not good. It didn't have any body damage, just faded paint. When I asked him about the engine he said it runs, it just needs a new thermostat. From what it looked like it had been sitting there for a while. the tag was last updated in 1998.
miles? tires? interior? original parts? Engine? t tops leak? many many questions! just try to get everything about it if theres a guy selling it the doesnt know any of those he doesnt deserve to own it and you can gip him bad out of a price

Ok, tires looked... like tires... interior... as I said looks fair... good condition I guess... I don't remember seeing tears in the seats... they were black. glass was all in good condition... the engine I'd assume was the stock engine. But as he said "It runs and drives good, just needs a new thermostat" Which makes one curious as to why if it just needed a thermostat, he didn't just get it replaced unless he just didn't care... Mileage I didn't really think about...
He's one of those guys that lives out in the middle of nowhere with half a dozen cars just sitting around his property... I asked him if he wanted to sell it, he said yea... I talked to my friends dad and he looked at it one day passing by the old guys place and said go to him and offer 1500 cash straight up to see if he takes it.
Viewing the forums abit and seeing the other pricing posts, I see that kings in worst off condition can go for alot more... maybe I'll get lucky?
I owned one of these several years back(white-red). I never could get much for mine in same cond. $2500. I got rid of mine because I couldnt find parts! Some things have changed w/ the remarkable access to the internet, but dont see that having much effect. Being that they only made 2500 of these cars. Just remeber not original not worth crap unless completely customize it...
The only two ways any Mustang II is worth any serious money is either:
1. Completely concours correct. (all original)
2. Completely customized.
Almost all others top out at $3,000-5,000 in value at most, and that's for cars with V8s in really good shape. An all-original Mustang II might see $10,000 at auction (one saw about that at Barret-Jackson this past year) or a really nice custom job can see as much as $20,000 on Ebay (but with probably $40,000 worth of parts an labor poured into it).
The value on these cars is going up though. I bought my '76 Ghia V8 coupe for $1000 13 months ago. I've put wheels and tires on it, and redone the brake system, and drive it on my days off. I've turned down offers for $3000 already. Mine needs a bit of work still, but it's nice to be turning down offers that are still above what I have in it.

RJS 11-gallon fuel cell, C4 tranny, chrome 16" pony wheels, fuzzy dice, brown vinyl half-top, and painted in the tackiest color ever (harvest gold, that's why I call it "The Goldenrod").
Also have a 2003 Dodge Ram (lightly modded daily driver/tow rig/office/dining room/home away from home/workshop... I call it "The Big Blue Dawg".)
I was curious bout that anyway, customizing, because I know some serious classic car people get pretty t-ed off when someone does custom things to certain cars... And as well I don't plan on really selling it any time soon after I get it, IF I am able to get it (Depending on many factors) I was just originally curious on the value. And Since I got the topic of custom... ...I've seen afew Mustang IIs with those side scoops... Where those custom made?
The nice thing about Mustang II's is that you can get them reasonably cheap and build yourself a real neat hot rod. Unfortunately, my experience with people who have several cars lying around the yard has been poor. A lot of these characters think they have something precious and often command a higher price for it than someone who is offering a reasonably well kept, running car! Cars sitting idle in yards also experience a lot of undercarriage rust.
Good luck. A T-Top King Cobra with nice paint, wheels and a 347 Stroker would be real cool.
I purchased mine for $1800 a little over a year ago. It was rust free and completely stock, right down to the 12 year old tires it was riding on. The original paint is in excellent shape as it was garaged but driven for most of it's life. 139,000 miles. It is a 302 with c4 auto.
I originally wanted to turn it into a COBRA CLONE but then started to customize it a little over the top. I have always customized my cars and done car shows so I dove right in with this one. I do all the customizing myself but have a friend do all the mechanical due to physical restrictions. I have thrown in approximately $2000.00 in parts but labor was free so I saved quite a bit. I have been offered $5500 so far but am not looking to sell since I enjoy it so much. I did not buy it for an investment so if I sell it one day and just get my $$$$$$ back that will be fine.
